Secret Places That Sell NOS parts?
« on: October 12, 2020, 08:48:26 AM »
Anyone have any secret links or numbers of dealers that stock dusty old NOS parts aside from the usual Partzilla, CMSNL, DSS, etc.? I’m talking about obscure links that one wouldn’t find in a google search that might have parts that are not available anymore. Specifically for a 650 but I’ll take anything.

Bob's indian in etters pa. has room after room of nos and nice used parts, but they are mainly 60's honda and most indian years.....my hunch would be no 650 parts. I mention him because I take all leads when looking for parts. He is not a wholesale dealer....hope this helps.

David Silvers Spares and CMSNL had taken another run on old stock dealers in the US in 18 and 19 and bought out former treasure troves like Western Hills Honda and several others. So, a lot fewer out there these days.

Got a part number for us to use?

I put my email for notifications of returning stock in CMSNL, so hope one shows up.

Yeah I agree, a few years ago I was looking for something hi nag for a different 650 and I ended up making calls to random Honda dealers across the US. Some small place in MO had it and they didn’t even know until some guy went in the back and looked around. They gave me a call back and I could have kissed them if I was in person, haha. Makes me wonder what is out there that no one knows about.

I’ll end up doing the same thing for this but thought I’d use the power of the internet.

It's not secret but Yamiya in Japan has a lot of NOS stuff. Shipping right now is a problem.

Yeah tried them but the only 650 stuff they have are the ones that are shared with the 500/550.

apparently, not universally.  I just bought a gsxr main fairing(very large box) from Japan and got it faster than some other stuff shipped from the U.S.  Seems like it is luck of the draw or some sellers are using covid19 as an excuse(quite possibly justified) to not send stuff out promptly.  I would not expect that from Yamiya.

Dave, Honda dealer can do nationwide search for nla part numbers, and can sometimes turn up old stock sitting on some forgotten shelf.  You will need a Honda dealership that has parts counter staff willing to help.

Also, I wouldn't be afraid to use an Athena head gasket with  a liberal coating of copper spray...

I got lucky stumbling on an NOS starter clutch on eBay. If you haven’t already You can search for the part number, then save the search and enable notifications for new listing in your search. Anytime someone posts with that search keyword, IE your part number boom you get an email.

The guy I bought my starter clutch from got it from a NOS lot. I can go back and get his profile. It was probably 3 years ago now but it might be worth a shot

My go to is typing in the part number bee in eBay but even this case it only turns up aftermarket. Thanks for the link, I’ll check it out. And good idea about a search notification!

I just called and some guy did do what you said. He said no one in the US has that part on their shelf. I kind of don’t believe it though. If this part was sitting on a shelf for decades then I don’t see someone entering that info on their computer. But I don’t really know how that all works.

In modern times I’m sure 99.9% of places use computerized inventories. As people find things they’d probably end up adding it into stock. Since it’s still in their catalogs it’s probably still a sku’d item that they can still enter in and keep track of.
I worked at a Pete dealership and all the inventories were linked. Even discontinued stuff could be found at dealers. One such instance was a navigation screen that my dealership somehow had 3 off. Ended up shipping them all across the country to other dealers.
People loose and find things all the time. Accidentally kick a package underneath a shelf and it’s gone for years until someone rearranges the store.
If you’re not sure the dude really tried, ask a couple more dealerships to take a look. Not everyone wants to put effort in every single time lol

It seems crazy that a bike that Honda sold for 3? years has no head gasket available, but I know how you feel.  I had an '86 vf500f Interceptor that used a 1 year only engine.  No more honda valve cover gaskets available and you needed 2 every time you checked the valve clearances.  It took a bit of searching to get a small supply of Vesrah.  Then it dropped a valve, exploding a piston.  I sold it as a parts bike for $150 because I knew it would be nigh on impossible to find enough parts to rebuild.  I really loved that little rocket.

I wonder how different the gasket is from a 550?  Or does the other years of 650 use the same part number?  We know Honda will create a new part number for seemingly insignificant changes.

Just because of the displacement difference I would say it won’t fit BUT now that I’m thinking  that I wonder if I could get an oversized 550 gasket. They are very similar.

They do, and MLS gaskets but they never fit right because they’re actually 550 gaskets. At least the die they use for the cam chain tunnel is for the 550 because the cam chain guide notches are in the wrong place. But it doesn’t matter because onepieceatatime found a full top end NOS gasket kit and I just bought it. Thanks again brother!

One fo my favourite sources (when the usual places fail) is JTMarks on EBay. Deal with him a bit and get his direct contact info. Never met him, but he often has exactly what I need. Not cheap, but always sends perfect parts. 100% Satisfaction rating.

Search by vendor: jtmarks77 He currently has over 500 NOS parts for Honda cb750 listed!

That’s it! What’s that from? I don’t need it now that I got a full NOS kit but still I’m curious.
