Looking for my old 1975 CB550F
« on: January 20, 2020, 03:43:49 PM »
I'm looking for my old 1975 CB550F.  My dad and I put a lot of time into it years ago, and I regretted selling it the second I did, but didn't have the money to support my 'hobby'. I'm in a little better shape now a days, and am able to keep more than 1 or 2 bikes, and would like to at least try to get the bike back.  After some research, and finding out it has changed hands a few times, it seems it is somewhere in Ohio, best I can tell.  I attached a few photos, so any help, or if you recognize the bike, please let me know.  I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

There are two ways.
1) Contact the person you sold to, contact the person they sold it to,  follow the chain.
2) Request a title search in Ohio, some states will do this for anyone, other states will only do this for licensed dealers, get the Ohio rules and comply.

I owned a CB750 in 1971.  In 1990 I ran a title search, found the current owner, went to look at the bike, it was exactly the same,  had an emotional breakdown (almost), came home without the bike.

I called and contacted the last 3, I believe owners, but the last most recent guy who sold it, did not have any contact info for the person who bought it, just remembers he was from Ohio.  I will definitely look into the Ohio Title search, thanks for the tip!

I sold this CB500 in 1974, Glendale AZ. Would drive out there to pick it up if you have it for sale.
I tell my wife the motorcycles are an investment...

A good reason to find a new project and build a second one dedicated to your old memories of the other bike you sold. ;)

Yeah two bikes are definitely better than one :) Especially if one can cook...

I wonder if my Peugeot 504 GL, that I drove across the Sahara desert into Niger, is still alive. In Africa Peugeots last long. Watch >

One of my Favorite books is "Close Quarters" by Larry Heinemann.

In it some French businessmen try to get Dosier(main character) and his fellow grunts to go to a village they know to be Viet Cong on the pretext of retrieving his Peugeot. Dosier responds, Nobody going to risk going there for a stinking Peugeot. or something close to that.

Great Book by the way. Heinemann died in 2019. he was a Vietnam Vet.

Since this post is wandering, this is where my thoughts wandered too on the mention of a french car.
