Honda Motorcycle Parts a Threat to Homeland Security?

I got a kick start rubber in the mail from Thailand today, the winnings of a recent eBay auction.

The end of the envelope was ripped open and taped shut again with bright green tape bearing the seal of the Department of Homeland Security and the word "INSPECTED" in bold letters. It's comforting to know that an NOS kick start rubber for a 1966 Honda CA-95 didn't fall into the wrong hands...

It was inspected because it came from Thailand which famous for it's drug trade.

I can see your point, and I figured, "Well, it was a cylindrical-shaped object.. probably checking to make sure it's not a vial of the latest neurotoxin." But, this is the 7th or so item I've gotten from that country (lots of good repro maintenance parts for the Benlys there) and some of the boxes have been much bigger and this has never happened until now.

On the basis that they probably have to check a certain % of packages, and that this one was easy to open.......... maybe that's why it was selected?

Two true stories: my friend is pulled up by the road patrol and is asked to show the bike title, checked proper light working etc. He couldn't understand why was he pulled up until he noticed another guy was been checked too. He was a black guy. Probably the patrol thought it would be good to pull a white guy too just to show there was no racism.


Another co-worker traves in a plane and he is asked to open the suitcase and show the content. While he does it he noticed the custom officer doesn't really pay much attention. His guess was that they make somebody open the suitcase every now and then so everybody else notice there is indeed a security check.

I have been through security here at our little home grown airport and the security people have said I was "the lucky contestant" for the spot check. No one passing through here fits the demographic of a potential terrorist but they have to check a certain number of people......

I would think the shipping from Thailand alone would be more than the <$3 I paid from the local Honda dealer for an OEM Kickstart rubber.

Air Mail shipping was free and the part is NLA from Honda.

I only had one source for these in the states and they were more expensive.

Interesting... were they the original type ones that have "Honda" in script letting on both sides? "New" ones are available, but look nothing like the original kind that came with the bike:

The same goes for the emblems on the tank. You can still walk into a dealer and buy them, but they are metal and just have the Honda wing and newer logo. The originals were acrylic and had the old wing logo, script lettering and the displacement on them:
