Hey Terry,
Relax. Everyone is entitled to do their own thing. I'm just a newbie but I've read and seen enough on this site to know that it's not just for the sohc purest. There are alot of interesting folks out there who have there own take on where they want to take there hobby, obsession or whatever you want to call it. Just like I'm entitled to chop' n cut my bike anyway I'd like - and I wouldn't by the way, I like them stock - your entitled to your opinion, just please don't put someone else down because they see thing differently. I think the guy deserves kudos for the guts to post on a site where he knows people have strong opinions.
Will some tell me where the gosh darn kill switch is!!!

why are we still talking about this?

I swear this is the zombie thread (it refuses to die and it eats our brains).

That being said anybody know where I can get exhaust tubing blank parts in the appropriate size for a cb750?

I am with you Gee. This thread and that hack job should be put to sleep.

Give a guy a break.... it's experimental and that's a damn good thing n this world. If it wasn't for people trying to break away from the mainstream from time to time we'd all be riding the latest honda.. not restoring and customising old knockers :)

Has to be said though, the pipes need a little work to tidy them up. After that I'd put a fatter tyre on the rear and put in a slightly longer swingarm. Possible even drop the rear a little so it sits lower and longer... get more of a streamlined / drag look to it that way. Do that and change the paint and I think you've got a very tidy, unique bike there. At the moment it's just a bit confused.

Keep on going!

I'm sure back in the 750's day, there much worse abominations done to them.

Hat's off to Chris though, like me, this bike was his only form of transportation for a while.  I'm sure that's more than many of the riders on here can say.

And trust me on this, the undertail exhaust is a huge step up from the 4 into 2 slashcut sidepipes that were on it before - those things were awful loud and full of holes.

Chris, I didn't realize this the last time I rode your bike, but maybe that very, very nasty headshake at 40+ mph is somewhat due to the section of frame you cut.  Rebuilding the forks and a fork brace may help too...

Hey Doc.-
Yeah, the headshake thing has actually been going on for some time, even before, I destroyed my beautiful frame.  When I replaced the front wheel bearings, it got a lot better, but I want to put new tapered head bearings in.  I've been scanning around this forums for the bearings that most people are using, but I can't yet decide which would be best.  Ideally, all bearing/bushing replacement would be ideal (front/rear wheel, steering, swingarm) but a little at a time.  I do also want to get new springs/seals for the forks, but have no idea where the best place to get them would be.  Most of the people here appear to be running progressive, but I'm not sure where they are getting them from.  As far as the fork brace goes, I wouldn't know where to start looking for one.  I think there was a thread a while back about a HD brace that people were making work, but I would have to check.

Hey there
Ya know, I get alot of stick from restorers, saying I chopped all the nice 750's up I had, what a load of bollocks, mine were all snotters anyway.
You created your bike yourself mate, self expressionism is cool, I mean, I do this for a living and love what I do.

Some will hate what you do, alot won't,  but enjoy what you do my friend, this is a SOHC forum and I wish you the best, I really hope this has inspired you to continue your project as the welds are great, complete the job and bung it on the site, as I would like to see the finished bike.
Peace and Grease
Carpy

I do love a restored 750 but thats what I do not do anymore.
I have had over 300 CB750's in less than 6 years here, but I always get a kick out of seeing an inline four, no matter what guise it is in.

Thanks Carpy-
I have to say, despite all the hate floating around because of what I did, I'm still pretty excited about it.  Also, it's been a while since I've checked out your site, and the image of the "rocket 4" cafe you just posted looks great.  Is that a 16" HD wheel on back?  looks like it.  I just need ome nicer weather so I can continue playing.

Well I'd never "knock" Carpy's efforts, he ekes out a living building customs on a shoe-string budget, relying on the Cafe 'look" to sell  his bikes. With that in mind, I went back and looked at what you'd done Chris, but I still think it looks awful. Sorry, no hate here, just revulsion. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Original. If you give the sidepipe the same angle of the shock or the frame tubes it will look even better.

I don't know how I've managed to not look at this thread until now and now that I have...YIPES!!! :o :o :o Chris you asked for opinions so here goes. I'm a designer and artist...it's what I do to make a living. I have a critical eye. Aesthetically there is something very wrong with the bike from the gas tank on back. Any successful design has a certain balance, form and flow...it pleases the eye. Your creation is not pleasing to the eye.

Not everyone is aware of what makes one design work and another not. Sure you will get disagreement about certain nuances of particular designs but they are generally minor if the basic design is good. Many people don't have the eye to discern between good design and bad, their brain just isn't wired that way. While you bravely took a plunge and tore into the project being creative in your own way, the outcome is seriously flawed in a visual sense. My opinion of course. You don't have "the eye" man.

Kudos for keeping up a good spirit while all sorts of venom has been directed towards your creation.

the moderators are presently working on making something good come from this, actually.  this situation needs attention.  yes, it has become a situation... of the bandwagon type.

we have chosen not to remove it up until now because of babyfood's excellent ability to take constructive and NONCONSTRUCTIVE criticism.

but, as others have noticed as well as the mods, the inability of some to discern the differences of the two... i will lock it... at least for the time being.
