I could not resist to search for circuit diagrams. Then continued to Google "Z1-900 circuit diagram + brown" searched brown white  too.

You are not alone wondering about these wires. Not only 900 the later 1000 as well.

"I too have an extra brown female and extra brown/white female coming out the top of the loom."
https://kzrider.com/forum/4-electrical/608408-wiring-inside-headlight-bucket

Not an absolute answer here but it must be explained in another thread.

Here another model, might be same function. Read all, last post might be a correct answer.
https://www.kzrider.com/forum/4-electrical/504973-what-s-the-brown-white-wire-do

Measure the voltage with power on and test various controls. Brown might be 12V as black is on a CB750?

The stock diagrams are more complete than later colored when describing CB750, maybe same with Kawasaki Z1-900?

I’ve seen where some bikes have a tail stop lamp out warning light, it may have something to do with that. I may change the headlamp over to one with a city bulb like the UK bikes got, some day.  My sealed beam was blown and I went to the parts store to get a replacement. I noticed they actually sell an LED equivalent for that sealed beam. I did not get one but that’s interesting. It was $154.

I'm glad you didn't Steve, I'm not a fan of LED lights on old bikes, they look weird. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I tested LED in the rear on my K6. Did not work, bad light to plate.
Front LED H4 work fine. Very bright white make me to be noticed in traffic much better than std H4 my bike has as stock. Take less power too, around 35W.

I used a long fiber optic cable from the tail bulb to the instrument panel. Then I just melted the end of the fiber at the instruments' end and held it in place with a cheesy bracket I made. Then when the taillight was ON, I could see a little bright spot on the dashboard.

Another dumb question
How do the two bowl vents route?
I assume the 4 overflow lines bunch up and drop over the rear of the engine to the swing area area.

Yeah Bill, if I'm lucky it'll be in the 70's on Christmas Eve for our family BBQ (around 30 guests) and the same for Christmas Day at the MIL's place, hopefully not in the 90's, or higher. No pool like the Griswolds, though. ;D

Mine go slightly up, back and then tuck in behind the airbox plenum.

Today I made some progress. I’m splitting my time between a major front yard upgrade and the Z1.
I got oil into the forks which is easy and I learned I needed to fold the handlebars down to get the caps back on. No biggie. I had to fix a cold solder on the rear break light switch, I installed the kick starter and I filled it with oil and did a cold crank, no plugs, to see if oil pressure would come up. It took some long seconds gritting my teeth but the oil light went out! Thereafter it went out quickly. I just wish it was easy to peek under the valve cover to check the top end. Next I’ll get the exhaust system on, recheck the ignition, set up the temporary fuel and try to start it. These are nervous times.

Waiting for the air filter plenum clamps, I didn’t get the right ones. They didn’t come on the bike and I ordered the wrong part number.

I noticed the tach didn't bump or anything. I guess it wasn't turning fast enough, I hope. New tach cable, I felt movement in it I think.

I'd agree it probably cranking too slow for the tach to register.
