Why would you do that? It's more of a pain in the neck to pull them out and ship them off than it is to polish them.  Just do it. Takes a little time, a little elbow grease and about $2 worth of material ... If that.

Besides, it's therapeutic.

They are all ready apart and you do bring up a good point.  Are there any recommendations or how to's that you guys know of?

If they still have their clear coat you need to strip it.
Then work from 400 grit wet dry, wet of course, to 800 (400, 600, 800) if you are going for mirror polish. If you want maximum reflection then go to 1000 or 1200 or even 2000 grit. Each successive step in grit must eliminate all the scratches of the previous grit.
Once you have them sanded then buffer/buffing wheel in a drill with brown polishing compound followed by white.

How can you tell if they do or do not have a clear coat on them?

Put some paint stripper on it. Shouldn't hurt alloy. If it wrinkles its got clear coat.
I'm just about to do mine.
And yes its theraputic and very satisfying
