Clymers High Performance modifications
« on: December 01, 2021, 09:42:54 AM »
Anyone have a copy of this manual? I'm missing the back pages and I'm curious about the hipo mods for "track, sport, touring"

My copy starts with Chapter Twelve Performance Improvement page 191-212. Page 213 has a list Manufactures & Services.  Index starts on page 214-216, and then there is 8 pages of colored electrical diagrams K1,K2,K3-K7, K8, CB750F 1977, CB750F 1978, CB 750A,and lastly CB750 U.K. Lots of scanning.

I have a later printing which is the same for most of the book. So I have all the wiring diagrams and such. I'm just missing the performance mods.

Don't need them scanned, even a breif outline would be good.

I have one at the shop. I'm fairly certain it's complete.  Will check for you a little later.

I forgot to look, mine would be easy to scan since the binding is gone and it's a stack of pages.

Yeah, I checked my copy and it's the same, no mention of performance mods.
They must have dropped that from the later editions.

Mine is apparently a 1976 edition with no performance section.

Search the forum here for modifications. There are many live examples about smaller and bigger mods.

A stock CB750 can become more fun with a little bit more compression and exhaust that breath, not HM341 4-4.  Yamiya No Numbers 4-4 or HM300 4-4 or a 4-1/4-2-1 yes.

My CB750 K2 got that.
Good head with fresh guides/valves + fresh bore/pistons are essential, modified or stock.
Terry in Australia has a K0 he gave higher compression pistons that runs fine.

My K6 got the full package $$$$$!
Finding a newer but used bike with more power from the very beginning should have cost me around half of the go fast parts with reinforcements. ;D
But I married that bike early 1979 and cannot say no when she begs for more over and over again!! ;D

Hondaman's (Mark Paris) book has also descriptions of modifications to do and how.

Over 836cc /+8000rpm the package will need more money with better rods. That was written in an old magazine where Mr Yoshimura talked about tuning a CB750. That is attached deeper down in this forum.

These engines are very old now, update of the primary drives cush rubbers can be a good idea. Not on my list 35-40 years ago. ;D

I found my Clymers and began to scan it before I noticed it's a gl1000 book. Fooey. Mostly about parts you can't buy anymore. My Chiltons is a 750 book and also a stack of pages. Looks like it was stored in an oily towel or a coal mine and no performance section either.
The book with the performance section has a banner across the top referring to RC engineering and a logo in the top right corner that says color wiring diagrams.

Rear shocks, swing arm bushings, fork springs, heaver oil, lighter wheels, brakes, double disc's tires,
Engine, carbs, cam, exhaust, larger bore, air cleaner, high output ignition.
It talks about stage one, two, and three engines
There are a couple of cool pictures, like RC engineering bike with some Weber's and a Cobra engine.
If it is aloud, I can scan the whole section.

Fun info.
This together with Action Fours and Russ Collins catalogs nice reading before Christmas whenever it was supposed to happen. Just order when you want it to happen;D

I'm really pleased that the go fast parts got a comeback 35 years after bike stopped to be made thanks to CycleX, Dynoman, APE, Webcam, Megacycle, Mike Rieck and others.
Parts better than ever.

I synched my carbs today and got it to idle really nice. Like a nice stocker with a little bit harder sound, absolutely not as 125-75 cam numbers can be thought to act.
I need to find one more. It would be horrible if not having a spare before production is stopped.
