New member from California, CB750K2
« on: February 21, 2022, 09:07:14 AM »
Hello All,

I just purchased a CB750 K2 that has been in storage for 33 years. Thankfully it was in a garage so while there will be a lot of work to get it going, it isn't a total disaster. The minimal rust appears to be surface only.

Check out the flames!

First off, welcome!

That is a nice find with all those "Custom" additions!
Plz confirm you will take that ugly fairing off, it will look 3 times better.

Consider starting a thread in the "Project Shop" area so we can follow along and answer any questions you may have.

Good luck

The removal of the fairing is literally going to be job1.  ;D

Ultimately I want to take it back to OEM. As much as it looks custom, the bike is still really complete with the vast majority of the original parts remaining. The aftermarket finned motor and tappet covers will be coming off and replaced with good used OEM parts. The motor has the finned covers for the points and clutch as well.

As you prolly know, they are only original once!  Your plan sounds good.  FYI - the K2 has a one-year only turn cancelling switch on the left control, is that present?

Luckily, yours can be brought back to original except for the paint.  Those aftermarket parts can be sold or traded for original parts.

The turn switch is present and it *looks* like it is an old Honda unit in good working order but I don't know if it is the original unit or something changed at some point. All the controls seem to be original but stiff. I foresee a total teardown and cleaning in their future.

I guess I should start a build thread. It will be interesting to see what's left of the original bike under those ugly flames.

I wonder if that is original paint?...never seen the stripe fade like that.  I am a fan of quality 1970's custom paint...but those flames are not so hot in my humble opinion.  Sometimes paint add ons like that are not done with such a durable or robust paint as Honda used and maybe could be carefully removed, saveing what was underneath.
If it works good, it looks good...

It's a repaint. I'm also a fan of 70s custom paint but this one... not so much. The flames are just god awful. It's more craptastic than fantastic. If I could remove just those, the underlying gold-ish color might be OK, especially with the intentionally faded tank stripe, but I am not so sure. I'm afraid it will end up getting a complete repaint back to one of the stock colors. The tank is really nice, it has the original pre-recall gas cap and the insides of the tank is in much better condition than it has any right to be after sitting for 33 years.
