Topic: How can I test electricals without a battery?

I have a 73 cb500 just bought with a dead battery. I'm waiting for the new battery to come in. Is there any way to test the electronics without a battery? Can I hook up my battery charger directly to the terminals to run current through the system and test the lights?

Jumper cables from car battery will work.

I may have been guilty of burning up some starter brushes this way when i started messing with bikes....

Really. The bike will only draw what it needs. The cars alternator is likely already limiting output to 14.4v.

Elextronics I'll be fine as they one draw what they need. When you keep cranking that starter like any electric motor they will draw more amps with higher temps.
Just had to replace a motor at work in a hoist cabinet over the same thing.
