About 2,5 weeks ago I bought myself another fun little fixer upper. This time a cb400f, as they are my favorite cb four i couldn't wait to dive straight in.
The bike looked a lot better on pictures than it did in real life, the paint was very badly done, had nicks in it, a dent on the right side of the tank and scratches on the side covers under the paint. Chrome was just in decent shape, just needed a good clean. It did need a new front fender , handlebars, side grip, seat and of course paintwork.
Mechanically however the bike was already very good, started right up, no smoke, runs smooth, so just a cosmetic fix and a little brake work as the front brake locked up on the first test ride.
So the way I got the bike was this, nice and yellow.
However up close it was not so nice..
Now 2,5 weeks later the bike is finished for me. I could go on for months and spend thousands more on details, but I am happy with the result so far. It looks like good cb400f again and is ready to deliver many more miles of smiles.
All the parts I used (except for the seat) were original so the chrome and paint is not perfect, but in my opinion it looks good with some patina to maintain the originality of the early 400.
I have driven it for 300km's already in the last 2 weeks and am very pleased with the bike, in my opinion you just cant beat a 400.
My girlfriend rode it during the Gentleman's Ride last weekend. Together with my yellow 400 it made a nice couple of 400's.
