Couldn't help myself, 76 GL1000

I used to not like the looks of the goldwings, but I guess my tastes changed or they seem more classic to me now.  After looking for a couple years, I finally pulled the trigger on one, a 76 Gl1000 that has been restored/refurbished.  The story was that a fellow retired, and then took this on as a retirement project with his brother for several years.  He sold it to the fellow I got it from on bringatrailer.com.  That guy has a small restoration business and finished a few things he thought it needed, some rechroming, new gauge faces, and tuning. Seat and handlebars probably from 77/78 but beautiful otherwise. At least I think so.

 My 78 has those handlebars on it. Mine appear to be stretching the cables and wires but are comfortable for riding. I keep thinking of changing to late 750 bars but it works so have not messed with it.

Nice. I think Sulfur yellow was a '75 only color on the Wing, but it looks great. The stepped seat does look like a 78. The GL can be a bit of a pig around town, but once you hit the highway it really comes into its own and it handles twisty roads far better than you would ever think it would.

BankerDanny, I've read the sulfur yellow was a one year 76 only color, not sure.  It does handle really well with the weight down low due to the engine design and actual fuel tank location.  The acceleration is so smooth too. 

Stev-o, you can actually read about a land speed racing goldwing at the link below.  I somehow missed seeing this bike on the salt last year.  Good story.  I will not be taking mine out there, that salt is brutal to machines.

76 was the only year for yellow.
nobody would buy them then but they are cool now 8)

I could have sworn Sulfer was '75 only on the GL and '76 only on the 750F. Ah well, either way it is a great color. My '76 750F was originally Sulfer based on the paint I found when I was sanding down the tank.

 My brother was working at a Honda shop then. He remembered Honda sending boxes of yellow tins for them to convert other color bikes to yellow. He called them "specials" They were apparently trying to boost sales.
