Is this a original Yoshi pipe?
« on: September 26, 2022, 12:59:01 PM »
Been around motorcycles for a while considering I'm not even 20 years old. Just bought my first cb, a 75 cb550 as a winter build. It doesn't have a tank, carbs, headlight, headers, etc. so I won't feel bad chopping it up. I came across someone who used to race decades ago selling parts, and he has headers which may or may not be original Yoshimura. I know they're rare and would be nice touch. They have heavy corrosion and the originals were made of thin steel, so that may be a good sign..? Can someone help identify these?

I wanted that parts lot but its too far from me, I think its a repop yoshi pipe but the other stuff looks fun.

Highly doubt it is an original.  Yoshi pipes that I have seen are rounded and have less of a bend...

I have an original 1970's Yoshi on my 550/4 Mongrel and the bend from the bottom of the headers to the pipe is nowhere near as acute as shown in the photo.

Thanks for the input everyone, does anyone have a blueprint for the repop style (or similar 4-1) headers? I have lots of spare tubing laying around so I may be able to weld a header together instead of coughing up $300 for a new one.

Hi Nurse Julie....the question of a pipe being a Yoshi comes up from time to time.  Would you consider posting a pic of yours in the Exhaust Photo Reference Library...

That looks quite like a Yoshima pipe to me, rather than a Yoshimura.  Both are rare, and both are unusual to see chromed

Shoot you may be right seems as if I can't read because that's what the lister said it might be, not a yoshimura

Weren't there hand bent Yoshimura pipes early and later on they made some mandrel bent pipes? There are a ton of Yoshimura stickers on ebay, I'm surprised most headers don't have one. L0L!
