This turned up in the parking lot next to my office last week. I had never seen one before and I thought a new thread would be worth while to post pictures of interesting vehicles that you run across.

This is a 1960 or '61 Dodge Dart Phoenix convertible. I had to look it up because I have never seen one. Apparently this was the top spec of the first generation Dart and would have come with a 318 V8 or an optional 360.

Do you have a picture of the Dart?

It was supposed to be attached, I don't know what happened. Let me try again

Those early Darts were cool, and different -- and the shape is what gave the car its name. Later iterations were vastly different and not very dart-shaped. Kinda the same story with Valiants -- '61 - '62 had a wildly different shape (fins! spare tire stamping in the trunk!) to those that came later, and then after '67 they started basically merging with the Dart. I bought my first Dart for $100 and have owned 4, and 2 Valiants. I see them around occasionally here in CDMX, makes me miss my '64 -- sold it when I moved here after 20 years of owning it.

Yes, I would have never guess the pic that Danny posted was a Dart.  My buddy in high school had one like this '65...

The Dodge Dart and the Plymouth Valiant "merged"?  I'm not that familiar with them but know the Valiant evolved into the Barracuda, my first car purchased for $100, a '70 model [stock photo]

Wish I still had that one!

'Cuda, Dart, Valiant -- and a few others -- were all "A body" Chryslers with the smaller wheelbases and similar platforms and shared parts. After 1967, the standard Dart and standard Valiant began to look similar (identical?), but of course there were hopped up versions, the Dart Demon, a "Hang 10" Dart, etc. The early 'Cuda's shared some of the same body work as Valiants (grille and IIRC tail lights) but the bodies were pretty different.

AH-64D Apache Longbow. When I first started flying the AH-64A in 1989, we trained to kill T-55's, T-64's, T-72's and various other armored vehicles used by the Warsaw Pact countries, with Hellfire missiles that had a 5 mile range. Get Some!!

Nice job!
One flew over the shop yesterday at about 1500ft. It's so loud I had plenty of time to go outside and see it. Usually it's the Navy out of Whidbey Naval Air Station flying Super Hornets, P3 Orion's and P8 Poseidon's. Back when Paul Allen of Microsoft had his flying collection I saw warbirds getting exercised over the shop all summer long so I painted something on the shop roof for them to look at.

Very cool roof top art work!!

My high school buddy had a 65 Dodge Dart Ragtop 273 Hi-PO..
Later purchased a hard top too for parts with a standard 273…what a turd comparatively…

It’s interesting the 60/61 had the bigger engine options..

I didn't get a pic but we saw a cycle car yesterday in Scottsdale or Phoenix, it had two wheels in front one in back, slick body and a bicycle mounted on the roof.

Does anyone find these are odd and ugly?  I've never driven one and am somewhat curious how it would ride/drive?  Highly doubt it would handle as well as a bike.

It was one of the old type cycle cars with a streamlined and enclosed body. I think they used a bike frame for the drive system.  It may have been an Elio but I think it was one of the late 70's ones that used a honda 400 matic up to a gl1000 frame and drive. It was driving away in traffic when we saw it.
Edit: I was thinking of the Pulse fighter jet car, but I don't see how a bicycle could mount to the canopy roof.

Saw this parked at the Dr.'s office a few weeks back. I believe it's a '65 or '66. My mom had a fire engine red '67. Always loved the Impala, except models after 1996. I traded my '93 Mustang LX 5.0 for a '95 Impala SS (large Caprice body style). Only kept it a year, wish I would've kept both the Mustang AND the Impala SS!

I had a light green factory color 1966' Chevy Impala 4-door sedan with the 327(I love the '327' insignia !) 4 barrel 2-speed Powerglide.I had a 30day temporary paper license plate on it which had the date a bit faded.., hey it rained ! I was half a mile from home and a police car turned 180 and hit the lights.
I hit the gas and made a 90 degree corner and got my car behind the house w/o getting caught.  ;D

Superformance at Barret Jackson had a dozen and a half Cobras and a half dozen GT40's. Amazing, they even had a gulf racing color GT40, one poor out of place corvette grand sport.

My grandfather was a farmer, but got into flying and eventually managed a small airport near Galesburg, Illinois. It was mostly crop dusting, teaching people who were interested how to fly, and commuter flights to Chicago and other nearby cities (my dad was flying people in a twin engine plane back and forth to Chicago when he wa 18). Because of the commuter flights, he opened up a rental car business as part of the airport so businessmen from Chicago could rent a car. Between 1960 and 1962, they bought 6 brand new Impalas every year, and at the end of the year sold them for a fraction of the cost (usually to relatives). What a goldmine that would be today -- 18 '60 - '62 Impalas.

Small world, I can hear the airplanes on the ground at the Galesburg airport from home. I'm often in the pattern especially when the Stearman fly in is in town.

Indeed! My aunt and uncle are still there, in their 90s, but one of my cousins still works the family farm.

My dad had an uncle who was a barnstormer in the 30s, and his son was a mechanic in Vietnam and then a commercial pilot and then a corporate pilot -- but the aviation bug stopped with him I guess.

'65 would have 6 round tail lights, '66 two rectangles. A 396 equipped '65 Impala Convertible is a 'one that got away' car for me. A neighbor on the street behind mine had one sitting in his driveway for years. metallic blue, black top and interior, Cragar Ss's on the back. I stopped every day on my paper route to stare longingly at it. I was 14 or 15 at the time and mentioned it to my mom and she stately clearly that no way would they buy a car with an engine like that for me. Then one day I came home from school and it was sitting in the driveway. somehow my dad talked the guy into selling it to him. It turned out the engine was stuck and 2 weeks later he chipped a tooth on the flywheel trying to turn it over and sold it to a guy down the street that was a mechanic. I never even got to hear it run.
