Miscellaneous Vehicles You've Seen
« on: January 24, 2023, 04:55:52 PM »
This turned up in the parking lot next to my office last week. I had never seen one before and I thought a new thread would be worth while to post pictures of interesting vehicles that you run across.

This is a 1960 or '61 Dodge Dart Phoenix convertible. I had to look it up because I have never seen one. Apparently this was the top spec of the first generation Dart and would have come with a 318 V8 or an optional 360.

Danny off topic but if you move to Michigan do you have another job lined up ? Hopefully not a Chicago commute. I worked everyday over in Chicago for awhile before I had to start commuting to St Louis, Mo. Now that was a tug. One day to get there, work 3 days and a day to drive home  ::)

For now it will be a weekend place.  I think I can negotiate working remote on Fridays so I can drive up on Thursdays and come home Sunday

I havent technically seen it yet, but I will in due time.  My friend bought this 1988 Archer, it's a custom car made in Indiana.
Lincoln Frame, Fiat body and a Chevy engine, sounds like an abomination!

Would love to drive a tank!

It's interesting to say the least.  And because as the driver you sit way forward, you feel like you are doing OK.  And then it is your turn to sit in the turret and you realize how much it jerks.  Lot of sharp corners inside the turret.

But when you step on it, feeling the power is awesome - V12 diesel, 38 liters displacement.

Friend in Phoenix imported a Skoda and drives it from time to time... It is air-cooled so unlikely he will be driving it the peak heat of summer. He is a professor at ASU. Has a 65 Studebaker Cruiser street rod and few old Volvos too.

Nice job!
One flew over the shop yesterday at about 1500ft. It's so loud I had plenty of time to go outside and see it. Usually it's the Navy out of Whidbey Naval Air Station flying Super Hornets, P3 Orion's and P8 Poseidon's. Back when Paul Allen of Microsoft had his flying collection I saw warbirds getting exercised over the shop all summer long so I painted something on the shop roof for them to look at.

Very interesting since Škoda  never made air cooled cars except maybe some prototypes.

But friend of mine, Dusan Neuman back in the day took air cooled pre war Tatras across USA.  Including Death Valley.

Yeah, one of our military class teachers was literally tear eyed when he talked about Apaches and A-10s.  He was a tank man - treadhead?? - all his life.

When we moved to VA I met a guy from NG at some picnic.  He was a Apache pilot so we had something to talk about since they taught him how kill tanks and I learned how to fix them.  He said either side behind the first tread wheel.   I agreed.  Left side you get the driver, on the right side is a fuel tank with "kilos"  aka 100 mm rounds stored in it.

Sorry I was wrong ... Confused...
It had cooling issues until he added a secondary radiator and then replaced the original radiator. I checked with him on it and I somehow mixed it up in my jumbled brain...

One of the models had engine in the rear and radiator in the front but they were all known for cooling problems.

But Škoda is now VW and doing really well - unlike CZ and Jawa motorcycles.

Do you have a picture of the Dart?

It was supposed to be attached, I don't know what happened. Let me try again

Those early Darts were cool, and different -- and the shape is what gave the car its name. Later iterations were vastly different and not very dart-shaped. Kinda the same story with Valiants -- '61 - '62 had a wildly different shape (fins! spare tire stamping in the trunk!) to those that came later, and then after '67 they started basically merging with the Dart. I bought my first Dart for $100 and have owned 4, and 2 Valiants. I see them around occasionally here in CDMX, makes me miss my '64 -- sold it when I moved here after 20 years of owning it.
