CB400F alternator thread pitch
«

Hi guys,
I'm trying to remove the alternator rotor from 75 400, but the bolt I've used in the past seems to be lost.
Just wanted to double check the thread pitch before ordering a new one IIRC it was an M20x 1.25 pitch, is this correct?
Thanks!

I haven't checked mine yet but I think it's an M16x1.50 thread. The 750 uses 18mm (IIRC) and the 400's is smaller... so unlikely to be 20mm?
Can measure it later today if needed.

before ordering check your rear axle bolt to the threads on the magneto
not sure if it is the same for a 350f but did it on mine tap the axle bolt with a hammer and pops right off

+1, on the 650 you use the rear axle bolt.

Ok, I checked. 18x1.5
I have more than one size of Honda rotor puller tool. I looked up the PN in the 350/400 shop manual and the one with same number measures 17.9mm OD with 1.5mm pitch.
So I'm pretty certain.

Hi guys, just wanted to give an update.
I bought an M18x1.5 bolt the thread is too coarse. I'm guessing it's a finer thread.
Thanks!

400F rotor tool
"I bought an M18x1.5 bolt the thread is too coarse. I'm guessing it's a finer thread."
Note: 333 is the model code for the 350 Four.

Least expensive method is once you have the right size and TP then a Bolts Plus or equivalent store will have a variety of metric thread large bolts. Usually around $5 per bolt in Canada, so way cheaper than the Honda or Motion Pro special tool.
Same idea thread into the rotor until it bottoms out and a light tap or two on the bolt head and another part turn or so on the bolt head and it usually pops off.
The bolt is likely a 1.25 TP if the 1.5 TP is too course. I have never seen a 1.0 TP rotor thread on Honda.

Fastenal started charging for special orders and does so on anything not in stock. Learned this when ordering a bolt for a CX motor to pull the rotor as rotor pullers were close to $20 and bolt was $5-6. Their fee was close to $8.
I was not happy.
