« on: March 31, 2023, 01:35:24 PM »
Here's me and my Mrs. outside T.I.A.'s ancestral home in Enniscorthy , Ireland ! Second pic is Terry's ancestor who built the castle around 1170 ! The girl at the reception desk said Terry was welcome to visit but he wasn't getting the castle back..lol.

Lord/Sir Terry might get a smaller house nearby and be a part of the museum! ;)

Ha ha, thanks for posting that mate, yep, that's the ancestral home, and if several thousand other folks around the world with my surname suddenly disappear I'll be moving back in. Only as a summer holiday home of course, I've been to Ireland and it's much too cold for me in winter.

My older sister is a keen family history researcher and has been to Eniscorthy recently. She told me that when she told them that she was a Prendergast from Australia, they were apparently so impressed enough to give her a guided tour of the castle, but I suspect that in fact she just turned up in time for the guided tour that everyone else gets when they go there...... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Well Terry, at least you have a pretty good idea where your ancestors came from. My oldest brother has been doing a lot of genealogy research on our family and still hasn't figures out exactly where us Bail's come from. My moms ancestors came from Germany in the early 1800's, that was easy but my dad's side we're not so sure about. The Bail surname had been in the US since at least early 1800's but no clue where they came from before settling here. My brother did dig up some amusing info though. While going through some historical records, my brother found out that a 3xGreat grandfather of ours got arrested for inciting a riot some where in Pennsylvania back in the 1800's. Imagine us Bails being a rowdy bunch. :)

Ha ha, yeah, family history is interesting, for sure. My ancestors were "transported" to Australia in chains, they weren't thieves are sheep rapers (well, not then, anyway) they were Irish rebels, who for some reason or other, objected to the English invading their country and throwing them off their land. Apparently my great (x10) grandfather Jim was a farmer, so as farmers were in short supply in Oz in 1803 or so, he was given some land to farm, and my ancestors here were still farming up until my grandfather and his brother went to fight in WW1, then moved to different places, but not as farmers. My distant cousins (who I don't know at all) are still farming in the area that Great Grandfather (x 10) Jim started farming all those years ago. ;D
