I was so close
« on: June 23, 2023, 04:33:28 PM »
1976 Honda 550F. With help from you guys I was able to get all electrics working. Bike was cranking with spark. Today I was installing new electronic ignition (Chinese). I connected the coil wires (yellow and blue) as instructed to new ignition. I wired the red (hot) wire from ignition to black (Hot) running to rear brake. I was about to set the timing by lining up the marks and using a test light. Then…nothing, no power to anything.  Battery check good, fuses good. I don’t know. I was thinking I could get it started today after installing ignition. I would appreciate any input.

The power has to stop somewhere.  Get a multimeter and follow the power from the battery out.

Second thought: check your grounds.  Ground had me puzzled few times.

Good luck.

Press and hold the brake and see if you get ignition to come alive...

Why on earth would you choose to do this? BLK goes to the RH control. It becomes BLK/WHT to feed the coils.

BLK also feeds other things, but the ignition (key) switch moves power from RED to BLK, BRN, and BRN/WHT. Follow the stock diagram for reliability.

It is perfectly acceptable to provide switched 12V power to the electronic ignition module from the black wire that feeds the rear brake light. The coils still get 12V from the black/white wire through the kill switch.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

Thanks Scottly, I wired it to rear brake switch black wire after reading many posts on this forum. Still don’t know why I don’t have any power anywhere.

Fuse holder melted or fuse internal unattached, regular fault
