Lost my keys
« on: September 13, 2023, 11:18:24 AM »
I don't need advice, I'm just complaining.

Got blind drunk on Friday night and lost my keys. The car key I can deal with because I have a spare. I do not, however, have a spare bike key.

Ordered a replacement ignition switch, and am talking to a local mobile locksmith to see if I can get a replacement key made from the ignition without a key.

Anyone else ever done some dumb nonsense like that?

I would consider removing the ignition switch/steering lock and looking for the stamped number code on the body of it;they can cut a new key 'by code' at a locksmith. A helmet lock(if you had a 'one key bike')has the stamped code behind it,so you can remove that to see.

What he said ^^^^^^ A good lock smith is a good lock smith…

I’ve had my lock cylinder pulled out by a would be thief. You could start it with a screwdriver. The fork lock prevented the theft though. They either didn’t have time or didn’t realize the forks didn’t lock withe the ignition switch.
Goos news back then Honda had it all new. I opted for the newer ignition switch. Which required changing the seat lock and the fork lock. For I while I had two keys. The tanks door lock will open with any key, I do t think it has a cylinder with tumblers…

Check out https://www.hondakeys.com/

OEM keys are still available.
All you need is the code off the ignition.

There is also a member 12ozPBR, over at the Vintagehondatwins.com forums who has keys for sale.

Maybe someone with more brain cells than you took your keys away from you, before you maimed or killed yourself or someone else?

Most people on Planet Earth have more brain cells than I do, however both bike and car were parked at my house because I walked the short distance into town. I had had a bad day - getting blind drunk with my mate was the plan all along. I don't drink or ride under the influence.

It's an aftermarket ignition switch installed by the POSPO, I have another one that just got delivered this morning. Otherwise yes, I would have had another key ordered. It's going to be a bear to install, because my oil tank etc are right up against it so there's very little working room. I've enlisted my squeeze to assist tonight as she has tiny hands.

An added layer of difficulty is that I don't currently have a garage having recently moved, however I'm going to run an extension cord from the power outlet in my SUV so I can use my soldering iron. Presumably while surrounded by the neighborhood kids, as was the case when I adjusted my valves, timing, cam chain, carb sync the other day on the side of the street.
