I need a new exhaust
« on: November 22, 2023, 11:15:37 AM »
Does anyone recommend a (fairly affordable) vendor that custom-makes exhaust headers? I need a new 4:1 downpipe set for my 77 F2, but I need the "down" pipe part of it to be 5cm longer to accommodate the Sumpthing I bought. My pipes are old and #$%*ty and need replacing. I'm in the NE USA.

I've read that there is no need for a custom made header.
Get a DOHC header, same exhaust width outlet spacing and size, and it drops down for the deeper lower oil pan on the DOHC that has all oil in the motor as compared to the oil tank of the SOHC.
Get a Delkevic header.

Big if true. I was about to buy the SOHC one and have a local do a custom-weld to extend them 5cm. This has saved a pile of money and I won't have to repaint to cover the weld.

Delkevic are good, then?

Good to know. You've saved me an entire headache, thanks. It'll be nice to have a shiny exhaust

I like the quality of the Delkevic on my 75 750F. Spring loaded down pipes to collector. Different muffler options. It's stainless and will turn a mild yellowish color compared to a bluish color.

If you send a comparative dimension of both oil pans on the bike I can take a measurement for you with my stock pan and the Delkevic installed

Essentially the Sumpthing drops the oil pan by 5cm. Do you have the DOHC pipes on your bike?

You may want pm Ellz10.

He’s installed a “Sumpthing” and I think he’s used the dohc exhaust too on his build..

He’s had a build thread and some parallel threads about a lot of his concerns..

I know he’s had some issues getting the Sumpthing to prime and some other gasket,  but you need to go to the source..

The standard 75/76 F pipe will NOT work with that 2" drop. It's close as is at about 1/4 - 1/2" clearance of the stock oil pan. Sorry for the late reply. I don't always look in and I'm out of the country about half the year.

Thanks for the reply mate. How about the DOHC pipes? I know there isn't enough clearance w/ my 77 pipes.

For those that care....Delkevic sale price only shows up when you add to the cart.  I think it might last another day or so, from what I found out from the sales staff today.
