Saying goodbye to Ron (MCRider)
« on: February 05, 2024, 06:14:10 am »
It is with a heavy heart that I pass along the news that our friend Ron...better known here as MCRider...has passed earlier this morning from his long struggle with Parkinson's disease and other ailments.

Ron was a wonderful person who was heavily engaged in the motorcycle community for much of his life.  A die hard Honda guy who dallied in the FRJ community.   Best known here for his LONG running build for his K2 named Phaedrus.

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,36459.msg2129961.html#msg2129961

I met Ron many years ago after chatting on this forum for a group ride down in southern Indiana...after that I started joining him and his long time friend Bruce for Motorcycle Church at his place most Sundays to work on Phaedrus and just generally shoot the $Hit.  I think we had that motor apart about 10 times till the magic of our friend Mike Rieck's cylinder head work and a 910 kit sorted it all out.  I learned so much from bantering with Ron and working with him over these last 5 or 6 years.  He will very much be missed  :'(

For those that may wonder...I have taken custodianship of Phaedrus and some of the other projects we were working on including "Ticker", his '68 CB77 we were building.  I have no plans to ever sell these bikes.  My wife and I are going to keep them as they are and try and ride them to local bike gatherings in the Indy Area this next year and beyond.

Attached is a bad A$$ old picture of Ron in the late 70s (I think) on the same Phaedrus thats now purple and gold and shiny  ;D   I'll also post a couple vids of getting Phaedrus running and to Ron's VERY big Entertainment of getting it on the dyno!

Regards, Joe

Hi Joe....this surely is sad news to start off a Monday morning.   Although I never met Ron, I followed all of his projects here on the forum for many years and admired his dedication to his mechanical friend.

I'm sure he would want you to carry on with caring of his beloved bikes, thanks for letting us know.

After many phone conversations with Ron I can honestly say he was a gem of a man and humanity is a little poorer with his passing. He loved the forum and appreciated all the support he got over the years......Godspeed brother.

Not yet, but I'll get it finished this year.  Its on a lift in my workshop and shouldn't need much more.   Though I'll be honest that the engine is an unknown at the moment.  We'll find out ;)  I'll continue the thread once I get back to it.

Thanks Joe. I got the chance to talk to Ron on the phone once 8 or 9 years ago, about his dyno runs, IIRC? Time flies.. His profile says he was 70 years old; I'll turn 70 this Sept. I always thought he was a bit older than me?
RIP Ron :'(
