Another CL77

Ok I will admit, I have a problem with the Honda 305 series.  Having just finished a CA77 Dream it is now time to start on the CL77, Scrambler.  I believe this will be the 5th or 6th one I have done.  All the past ones have been long sold and gone on to new owners, this one will be staying with the Dream and I must confess to checking the ads on occasion for a CB77, the Super Hawk, to complete the trio. I can't tell you what sparked this obsession, other than these were the bikes to have back in 1967 when I graduated from Spotsylvania County High School.  This one had a lot rust, but a good low miles motor that runs extremely well.  Going back to the black frame and Cloud Silver paint.  I have most of the parts needed on hand and will throw up some occasional shots as it progresses........

Nice. I remember getting a ride on my oldest brother's brand new 305 scrambler in 67/68. I was 11 or 12, it got my need for speed wiring in my brain Hooked Up!
I have a friend up here in NH that has a bunch of used 305 parts he wants to sell off as a lot, if you are interested. He might even have a dream still?? I know he had 2 NOS dream frames last summer.

1972 Suzuki GT380 I had charge of it for a year in 1973 while my friend was deployed and learned to love street riding....
New CB450 K7 after my friend returned...
New CB750 K5 Planet Blue, demise by ex cousin in law at 9,000 miles...
New CB750 K6 Anteres Red, to replace the totaled K5, I sold this K6 at 45k in 1983, I had heavily modified it, many great memories on it and have missed it greatly.....

It seems all the good stuff is way up North or on the West Coast.  Just to far away but you might tell your friend to do a little research on what parts he has.  Most of the 305 series were 3 to 4 year production models and parts prices are going through the roof, a good uncut front fender for a CL with the bail, with bring 450 to 500 bucks for example.  I just drove across the State to pick up a very good set of CL pipes and paid $675 for the set which is a decent buy.  The covers and pipes are pretty much rush free with good chrome.  When I got home and started cleaning them I discovered a crack in one flange when I cleaned out the carbon.  The seller is a good friend and had no idea the damage was present and with the thin metal it is a common problem. It is at the welding shop currently to be repaired with some skillful tig welding hopefully.  It always seems to be two steps forward and one step back dealing with vintage bikes, but I know I am preaching to the choir in that department.........

I have a chrome front fender that the rivets were loose.
I had a shop tig weld it and he used SS wire and the finished product came out nice.

The CL77 was THE bike to have when I was in High School. The CB77 was a distant second (that's what I had).

Also there is the fact, as soon as the stuff is sold and gone out the door, another CL77 shows up with "you must buy me price" and there are no parts to bring it back.  This is the stuff I think about when you wake up at 3am to pee and can't go back to sleep........

Totally understand and agree with that
I've let a few things go, but yes I too have a problem...... letting parts go is hard.

I have not sold on Ebay for a while;I found they penalize a seller for that and hold their payments until the item is delivered to the seller  >:(

Someone sent me a link to an (years) old eBay sale of an NOS aluminum front fender for this bike. The sold price was over $700 (for a fender?).

I went with JBS aftermarket shocks out of Australia due to the fact my stock set was really a little too far gone.  I have used their shocks on a couple of other projects, there is s set on my CB750k.   Excellent quality, priced right, and even though they have to come across the pond, shipping is really quick.  I have the 37 loose ball bearings back in the steering head,  (use a 5 gallon bucket hung over the stem coming and going and it will save you chasing the little buggers all over the garage floor), hopefully we will have a roller soon.

I have been exceptionally good lately, therefore, I am counting on several hairy footed little "Garage Gnomes" to show up in the dead of the night and put this thing back together.......Motor is detailed, so I have done the hard part.....
