Use Gasket Sealant?

Going to replace the coil(s) cover on 1978 750F. Do I use a gasket sealant or not. Have seen info here not to use. Have seen a Youtube video where the person did use sealant. Do I use it or not? Thanks for any/all responses.

Why woud yu use sealant under the tank? Or do you mean generator cover? If so NO just new gasket on clean surfaces with maybe clean grease to hold it on

Sealant is not used there, be sure it's very clean.

Replacing the alternator cover? I hope you read all the replies we made to your questions back in January? I also added a write up for you in my K6 project file. Assuming you have another cover, it’s not just a case of unscrewing it and swapping them. A reply to all those previous responses you got would have been appreciated. Good luck with your project.

Following advice from people on here I scrape w a gasket knife, then file if necessary (tool marks, burrs etc) and lightly sand the area before wiping very clean and applying a few dabs of grease to hold the gasket in place. It’s good to be anal retentive when it comes to oil leaks … I didn’t mean for that to sound so disgusting, sorry
