Since NGK stopped production on the plug caps we use the supply chain quickly drained the angled ones out of availability with sales depleting them first. Someone will have to step up with a good quality replacement... I find it odd they are available in Europe but not here...any idea why?

SO!

I got my hands on the only available plug cap, and started to re-assemble things. Before doing so, I decided to check to make sure I was not putting the defective cap back.

Both straight caps were now reading “Open-Line”! How did that happen overnight?

Clearly my decision to replace all 4 caps, until I discovered the difficulty in finding them, was correct.

Now I am stuck, whil I wait on a full set to come from Vintage CB750 in Ontario - min 1-3 business days, but likely longer! :(

Mark, it's not the carbon fouled plugs that have the problem..
Mooshie's HM ignition failed in the Mojave, and Dash had to ride a tow truck to a Honda shop in Victorville, where she was able to contact you so you could tell the techs there how to by-pass it. (I bought my very first brand new vehicle, a 1982 Honda CR480R, at the same shop. ;D) If I recall correctly, it was on her "Cowboys and Indians" tour of the Southwest.

Hmm...this is news to me! I don't remember this episode at all? The last contact I had with Mooshie was when she was selling Dash about a year after she sent me the engine for rebuild: she didn't have time to ride it anymore, she said, so she was selling it. She liked the extra power the port work gave her, but she had just lost interest, she said.

dodgy plug caps trap a lotta people,if one or two measure out of spec replace em all, full stop, cold they may measure ok or close, once hot with engine heat you may get intermittent hard to pin point trouble.

The plug caps finally arrived. Full marks to the guys at Vintage CB750 for going eh extra mile to get them to me ASAP. Unfortunately they wee not as advertised on the website; they are not NGK, but unbranded replacements made in Taiwan, so the final score drops to middling.

I contacted them about this and got an unapologetic response saying I should be grateful that they made the effort to get them to me quickly. They will, they say, update the website.

Before fitting the caps, I cut a bit off the end of the leads to ensure a good connection. Unfortunately one end flew off and into the plug hole. It was sitting just at the top of the threads lying at a slant. I put some superglue on a retrieval magnet and tried to get it out.

The first time I only succeeded in pushing it further in;  :( luckily I had put the piston at TDC so It was just sitting there. A second attempt with the glue was successful  :D

Everything is now back together and working, so tomorrow I will be back on the road.

What a week! I haven’t mentioned the diesel; you’ll have to read the blog for that story!  ;)

Glad you had success and have something that works. It is a shame they were not forth coming on the apology but at least they work and will last for a while. Too bad NGK stopped making them, wish I had gotten a set of two before they stopped. Hopefully these will last you a good long time. The tech in the design is not very advanced, so maybe that will translate to them lasting if they have the material selection right...

That was a clever recovery of the wire!
I recently bought a bunch of resistor plugs, anticipating non-resistor caps becoming the norm, at least for a while.

My brother brought a set of 7mm copper core Bosch VW wires for his K2, I pulled the rubber air dampers off and plan to use them with gl1500 coils a dyna and NGK resistor plugs that I already have. Runs lousy already so why not experiment? I'll be careful around any open holes. L0L!
