Hello from Georgia
« on: November 30, 2024, 09:10:15 AM »
I have been a lurker on this site for a while, but it's about time I introduced myself. You see, I just bought a first-generation Honda, and this is the site to seek wisdom and inspiration. My experience with motorcycles is next to nil. But my interest goes way back, back to high school. In the mid-seventies, a friend brought a motorcycle magazine to school. It had an article on cafe-racers. Now, I was a car guy, and still am, but the descriptions of cafe bikes fascinated me. Taking a bike and stripping it down to its bare essentials, and improving the suspension and making more horsepower, was the same principals applied to building any muscle car or hot rod. I could relate to this. I currently am having an engine built for my Mercury Cyclone and when that is installed, that project will mostly be over. The bike is my retirement project. I have been a machinist for most of my life. I currently work for one of the big airlines, but I will be retiring in about a year. I have a decent shop and plenty of tools, but I will rely on you guys for expertise. Thanks in advance for answering my silly questions. I will post pictures of the bike (what there is of it) in a separate post

A 77 CB 750K. Previous owner had already started to make the bike into a cafe racer. It's a project bike. I will update tomorrow, hopefully.

Beautiful Mustang. My dad had a 69 Mustang fastback. My Cyclone is a 68 GT. It's a 390 with a C-6 auto and 3:25 Trac-lok rear end. I am building a 428 for it, but parts shortages are really slowing that down.

Oh yeah  :), Sure is nice to see classic cars from 'back in the day'.
They were made out of steel and built to last and be restored many times;not like the latest plastic creations(although good cars)which get hard and crack over time.

Nice Cyclone and with a 390 to boot!  [FE S-Code, right?]   Those are really underrated and I rarely see them at car shows.  I would like one!

BTW - My dad had a Fastback Mustang too, but a '67. I was too young and it went to my older sister.

Yes, if you didn't get a Mustang years ago, they have gotten beyond the reach of the average working man. Cyclones and Torinos are still a relative bargain, but they are going up in price as are all sixties cars.

Yes, if you didn't get a Mustang years ago...

Bought this Mustang from my brother about two years ago, it sat for 5+ years in his shop not driven.  So, it was a project car and we've had to go through it but it is running great now. [351W bored & stroked to 408 w/4spd]    I think I will drive it today!

Stev-o,do you know the rear axle gears ratio ?
I had a 69' Mercury Cougar with the 351 Windsor 4-bbl carb stock and that car had 2.79 rear gears:way too high for performance/1/4 mile stop light running.
