I LOVE the Ford FE. I had 2 of them, one in its day in a 1963 Galaxie ragtop (the 390 "X" engine, 330 HP, 10.25:1 CR, solid lifters, huge quad, hard to keep rear tires on it) and the other was the 390 "H" engine with 0 deck height cylinders, 2 bbl carb, but top end so far above 125 MPH that I could actually hear the needle hit the speedo's stopping peg inside the 1967 LTD Fastback. I had to sell the latter for medical $$, still miss that car...it got almost 20 MPG at 65 MPH! I can't even get 18 MPG from my Explorer, with less than half the HP. :(
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

The demons are repulsed when a man does good. Use that.
Blood is thicker than water, but motor oil is thicker yet...so, don't mess with my SOHC4, or I might have to hurt you.

Yes, if you didn't get a Mustang years ago...

Bought this Mustang from my brother about two years ago, it sat for 5+ years in his shop not driven.  So, it was a project car and we've had to go through it but it is running great now. [351W bored & stroked to 408 w/4spd]    I think I will drive it today!

Stev-o,do you know the rear axle gears ratio ?

No, never checked it but guessing it's 3:73?  I dont like it, the motor is screaming at 75mph, my preferred cruising speed through the Hills.  Not a priority but I'd like to lower it.

Be worth it to have a read on the tag on one of the rear gear 'chuck' mounting bolts.
I don't know if you have history on the car's past;someone may have installed those low-end gears at some point.
I'm curious if yours has a 9" rear gear-set or the 'small block' type 8" ? How many spline axles?
I would imagine that Mach 1 has the larger spec rear axle gear chuck, but either way, that rear tag will give you all the information you need,if it's still there..
You can find a compatible 'chuck' to swap in there(good posi traction)with the higher gear ratio you want;then save the original? 'chuck'/gearset when you go back to what the car came with.

I would not necessarily believe the tag, who knows what has been changed on a 50+ car?  My brother bought it from a dealer in Florida, I don't think he liked it as much as his '70 Chevelle 454 convertible that he had back then. I nudged him for years before he agreed to sell it.

I see, you may need to pull the 'chuck'/gear-set to see/count what you've got;then look for the gear-set you want to install.
The size of the outer housing can be visually 'telling' to know if it's a 8" or 9" large gear,to someone familiar with these, then locate a 3:25,etc.?(I always preferred the standard 3:00)to swap in there w/ the correct spline axles.

No - the easy way to do it is to jack up the rear of the car and count the # of turns it takes the drive shaft to turn the wheel one complete rotation.

Bill, your 1968 Cyclone is the first model/year with that body style and it has a sporty look in the design of the grille.
I hope you find the parts to complete your 428 soon.
Which parts are you still looking for ?
Do you plan to keep the paint original? it looks good with factory paint.
