  • So, what do ya wanna talk about today?
The weather here is horrible at the moment, yesterday it only got to 50 deg F and was overcast and windy, but I wanted to go for a ride. The forkseals on my Ducati are leaking quite badly, so I jumped on the VMax, and took off. This time I remembered to turn my heated gloves on, and they were fantastic, they ran out of battery only an hour or so into the ride, but they weren't fully charged. I didn't need to turn on my heated vest as I was wearing thermals under my waterproof pants and big heavy Triumph jacket.

It was only a 60 mile blast, but I really enjoyed it, and didn't need a hot shower afterwards to thaw my core. #21 is in the can, and hopefully I'll hit #25 in the next couple of weeks, if the sun ever comes out again... ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Done racing the LEXUS for several weeks, so back on the bikes! #12 today was a nice long run to Bobcageon for lunch and back. Got wet on the return run, but glad for it. No rain here for about 10 days and it knocked the heat down a bit!

Went on a poker run total distance was 110 miles. My daughter's 7th bday ride. Her bday present to wake up to today was a new helmet. I even wore a helmet with her.

#42, 7-12-2025, 88 miles. One kind of neat thing I never noticed before was that the Alfalfa was in full bloom and the smell if the flowers wafted into my nose when the wind was right.

The weather here is still horrible, but after doing some work on my GPZ1100 with Spotty on Saturday, I took the VMax out again for ride #22. I rode out to Broadford, and was happy to see that the Bakery was open again, after apparently closing for renovations a couple of months ago. Last time I was there it was all closed up, and I worried that it might be permanent, but no, so next time I go there I'll stop for a pie and a coffee.

The heated gloves are fantastic, after 2+ hours my fingers were still working fine, so I'll be wearing them on every ride over this horrible cold weather. Hopefully it won't rain today, and I'll get out for #23. ;D

Well Terry it's just the opposite here in New Hampshire, hot and very humid. I worked outside yesterday and today, totally drenched my tee shirt within 30 minutes after starting at 8:30 am. Today I brought along a second shirt to change into to go to lunch. After lunch I did some errands in the minivan then up to my shop to enjoy the AC and work on carbs.

Thanks Stu, I’m jealous, it’s overcast and cold again today, I really wish summer would hurry up but warm weather is months away so I’ll rug up and take the VMax for another blast. ;D

Ha ha, I did ride #23 yesterday Trevor, I had my heated vest on under my heavy Triumph leather jacket, but I didn’t turn it on, as I’m usually warm enough with its collar blocking most of the cold from coming inside the jacket.

I had the gloves on though and my hands still felt pretty good after around 70 miles. I had to cut my ride short though as it started to rain and the VMax handles bad enough on dry roads, so I didn’t want to tempt fate. It was bloody cold yesterday and I should have stopped and turned the vest on, but I just wanted to get home. If I go for another ride today I’ll definitely switch it on. ;D

Ride #13  75 miles

Terry, it’s midsummer here and it’s been 10 days since I have been out on my CB. That’s too long. Last week it was unhealthy to be outside due to wildfire smoke. Yesterday’s storm had a cloudburst here, 2” rain +/-. I did get a couple days near Lake Michigan with family, without CB, storms there too at night.
Today’s ride was mostly gray skies, it was misting when I first planned to leave. I checked the radar, it said ok. I lubed the chain, snugged it, aired the tires, wiped it down, buying time. And it was nice enough, jacketed, all vents open.
First picture is with my granddaughter at Elberta Bluffs, you can see the waves crash over the break wall. No fishing boats out, freighters prefer Wisconsin side of Lake Michigan.
Second pic is a new housing development north of Ann Arbor, converting farmland into residential. I don’t know how many homes how many acres but the homes start at $900,000 to 1,300,000. Are y’all interested in a new house? There are more than a few new developments like this underway.

Ride #14    6 + 6 + 127 = 139 miles  A Beautiful Day!

Wow! Today was the day we have been waiting for: mid 70’s, smoke gone, humidity gone, blue skies and abundant sunshine. I wasn’t quite sure if I should hit the road or go sample the Indian demo rides, then I thought this thread has been missing Buds Indian rides and maybe I could fill in a bit. Well, I got two 6 mile rides through suburbia not Hill Country Texas, and no breakfast tacos.  I started on a Challenger Dark Horse, maybe the biggest and baddest at 826 lbs and 126 hp. My exit from the parking lot was not the most graceful, but at least successful. I think I need to spend more time on a modern fuel injected bikes with rocket quick throttle response. There’s nowhere on the route to get up to highway speed or wind up a gear or two, oh well.
Next up was the Scout Bobber Limited in Nara Bronze Metallic. Theres 1250cc’s pushing out 105hp. Once again, I’m not used to the feet forward riding or the 25” seat height, but throttle roll-ons were very effective, no downshifts required. This bike had a combo speedo/tach. I couldn’t make out the redline but 5000rpm was getting the best of it.
The ride format was less formal than before, just choose any parked bike and ride the six mile rectangular route on your own. Maybe 6 bagger/touring sized bikes and 6 Scout sized bikes, ok except the Scouts were getting the attention, and the big bikes were gathering dust. Thanks Indian for letting me try your nice rides. I just didn’t find the one that suited me.
About noon I got back on the CB and set off westbound. It’s comfortable and familiar but I noticed my voltmeter at 15.0vDC. I’m a lights on rider and the slide switch was at L, when I moved it to H the voltage dropped to 13.8vDC, back to L and 15. WTH?? At a stop I waved my hand in front of the beam and learned that the low beam was out on my 20+ year old Sylvania Xtravision 6024 sealed beam.
Amazon will bring me a new beam Saturday. I have not yet got the $20 Toyota upgrade kit.
At one point I made out the red high beam indicator for the red oil pressure indicator. The red lamps are rarely lit, the text below both red lamps was hidden behind cables. I stopped for a hot second thinking my oil pressure was bad. I want a blue lens for the high beam indicator.

Well Kevin here in NH I awoke to 73° and low humidity, a far cry difference from the past week of 90°-98° and higher heat indexes, so it was a great day for riding to the coast for my nephew's Change of Command Ceremony at Portsmouth Harbour Coast Guard Station, at Fort Constitution, at the mouth of the Piscataqua River. He is the new Officer in Command now. It was a big To Do, with a US Congressman and other dignitaries in attendance.
My nephew's 3 sons were there(2 are Coasties too)with their kids, so they got to sit on the goldwing and talk about riding, it's always fun to introduce the next generation to the feel of being on a bike, even just sitting in a parking lot.
At my nephew's recommend when I left at 4pm,  I rode around the island (New Castle Island) and went past the Wentworth by the Sea Hotel and Country Club. It's quite the posh hotel.
So ride #11 today 7/18, left at 9am, 73°F, with a good breeze and gusts to 25mph(it was a perfect temperature under the big tent there by the ocean!) and perfect for riding. The high temp was 83° as forecasted. Arrived home at 6pm, with 147 miles.

Kelly, it’s hard comparing apples and oranges, for example: does the tractor have a 400Watt premium sound system with Bluetooth?

Stu, a nice day and a big ceremony for the Coast Guard and your nephew. Congratulations.

I don’t know many of the details, but I do know that duties and staffing have changed around here for USCG.
There’s an empty station in Frankfort, I think their rescue duties on Lake Michigan are supported by helicopter crews stationed elsewhere (Traverse City? Mackinaw City?) I noticed the orange and white chopper flyby a couple times during our long weekend. Were they on a mission? patrol? training?

It’s starting out nice here, but big storms in Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois on the way here. Watch out out Don R!
