Hi Mike,Sam seems to be lusting after my ticklers, hope the rest of them does the business for the motor. Our 500 does 63bhp without those tickler carbs so we hope for some good figures from the 750. I just hope we got all the bits in all the right places,it's a lot different to a 500 to work on, thats for sure.
By the way Sam we have a K head with F2 pistons at .5mm oversize

Hey Mike,I forgot to mention, as well as the original CR carbs, the stuffy sod has got a Nova tranny in it (really jealous NOW :( ) ;)

I was looking at the gearing that we put on the CR to keep the front end down the other day and got to thinking.
It turned 118 mph on 17 44 in fourth gear over the quarter. When he did a flyer a few years ago with the old motor it recorded 127 mph on 18 39 gearing.
He must have been in fourth gear on the flyer, as he had said it was revving to about 9,500.
Wonder what it would have done in top :o :o :o

I haven't ridden in a strong cross wind for quite some time, the last time was in 75 on a 250 Yamaha. I would have been doing about 105 mph on a flyer, I was really leaning onto it, then it dropped just as i approached the finish boards, I ended up missing the timing lights when I rode outside the boards marking the finish. ::) ::) ::)
Chris has never ridden in a strong cross wind.

I was in bed today after another torturous night at work (on the net  ::)) and was dreaming about Peter Cs original CR carbs and Nova gearbox when a noise outside awakened me.
As I was awake I thought I would have a drive down to my welders place and pick up the pipe I have been fabricating for the CRs exhaust.
After parting company with a fiver, after allready paying £30 for the rest of the welding, I stood there with what can only be described as a very twisted piece of stainless tube.
I took it home and offered it to the headers and guess what, perfect ::) ::) ::).
Next job the DYNO ;D

Sam, is it this week for the long awaited results? I take it the new pipe is a 4 into 1. I think us road racers will end up being allowed to go in that direction to get the noise to 105 decibels next year. Our current regs. insist on 4 into 4.

Hi Pete, we will probably take it to some quiet back road and run it up first to make sure all is well with the 4 into 1 then book it in for the dyno.
The down pipes and collector came of the F2 I sold to Mick Puffet.
I had a can made up and a piece of of 2" stainless tube from MTC at Burscough in Lanc's.
It was just a case of making the 2" tube meet up with the collector and at the point were we wanted the can to be.

Well guys, the exhaust is fitted and we fired it up in the street.
Allthough it is straight through it is very quiet, Chris didn't know it was running untill I turned the vans engine off.
We took a video with Chrises mobile phone and when I went round the front to let you see the factory genny cover, all you could hear was engine noise.
I am going to phone the dyno man tomorrow to get it booked in.
The bikes next outing will be on the 16th September at the Aintree race course in Liverpool.
Will post the video as soon as it is processed.

Well I phoned the dyno guy today but only got through to his mechanic who said he would get him to call me back.

Got no reply as yet so went on line to see if I could email him.

I emailed him last week and got no reply and I am booking it in at another place.

Calm down Jerry, remember that weak blood vessel you have. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

We did a classic bike sprint last weekend and allthough it ran well, I have a feeling we were well down the order.

We were up against bigger and more modern bikes with specs that we are not allowed to use in the meetings (NSA) we normally run in.

I am not sure where we finished as the results were not posted on the day.

As soon as I have them I will post them on this thread.

We were hoping to get the 4 into 1 exhaust dialed in before the meeting in a few weeks at Aintree in Liverpool.

Chris did 2 runs and it was bellowing black smoke and ran a 14 backed up with a high 13 at 91mph.

We jetted down and it dropped into the mid 13s but was still rich.

We came down another size and it ran 12.55 with a fastest terminal of 98mph and was still sooting the plugs.

There were 2 other CRs there and from what times we heard over the tanoy we were a little quicker.
There is the possibility that they may have run quicker but we were at the end of the pits and couldn't hear the results being announced.

There is nothing feminine about jetting down Sam. I know you know that. Get that thing on a dyno with a carb compitant person and you'll see sunrise. Friggin people always thinking more is better......sometimes less is more especially with an efficient engine. Carb tuning is vodoo and science....fuel injection will put me out of business

Damn, I've been missing out. Looks like I've got a bit of reading to catch up on this thread. Thanks for keeping us posted, Sam :)

Curious as to what your main jetting was with the 4-4 and what you've dropped so far on the 4-1. Those F2 headers are nice indeed, and as Mike says, the bike should scream pretty good once you get jetted down proper ;)

Hi Mike and Sean, when the carbs were on the old motor they were fine with 118s.

On the new motor with the 4 into 4 they were a little on the rich side.

With the 4 into 1 they are very rich.

We went down to 115 then to 112 and still quite rich.

I've put a set of 110s in for the Aintree meeting on the 16th of this month.

I'll probably get a set of 108s and 105s and hope we don't have to go any lower, they cost about $40 a set over here plus postage >:(

The week after the Aintree meeting we are on the dyno (22nd)

Thanks, Sam :)  I've had all of 3 days to play around with my CR's so far. Kinda hard to do a WOT plug chop 'cause I don't have a "run" switch on the bike(ignition key turns EVERYTHING on and off). I have 120-122.5-125's on hand. The 120's do nothing when I crack the throttle and the 125's seem to surge a bit better but still don't supply enough after 7/8 throttle. I have GOT to get another pipe on quick. And yes, those mains aren't so cheap here either ;)

I am running 120s on mine they it pulls like a tracktor up top
but need some help with the rest
thanks

Hi Jim, I know you have been waiting a long time for these figures but bare in mind we don't run any filters.

Even without the filters it's looking like we are going to be running mains quite a lot lower than most of the guys on here with similar set ups.

Also our carbs are only tuned for WOT as we only use the bike for drag racing.

I will however keep you informed of what transpires on the dyno in a few weeks time.

Sam. ;)

The results from the classic bike sprint at North Weald have just been dropped of by Chris.

There was no program of events so on the day no one had much of an idea who they were up against.

We knew there were a couple of CR750 but a lot of the bikes were quite a bit younger and hell of a lot bigger.

Here are the 750 racing class and the unlimited racing class that Chris had entered.

750 racing.  1st Gary Clarke          Kawasaki 750       12.85/112
                 2nd Clive Brooker       Honda CR750       12.91/103
                 3rd  Tim Howell         Norton 750          13.69/95
                 4th  Andy Smith        Honda CR750       13.83/97
                 5th  Les Toogood     Triumph 650         15.29/82
                 6th  Dave Sadler       BMW 750             17.00/76

Unlimited    1st Steve Hobbs       Suzuki 1428           9.86/142 FTD
                2nd B Varndell           Kawasaki 1170       9.90/145

                4th Rob Clee             Yamaha 1220        12.24/125
XXXXXXX  5th Chris Cullen          Honda CR836        12.55/107 XXXXXXX

Hi guys, the forcast for Sunday was good but with rain coming later in the day.
We got to Aintree around 7.30am and were unloaded and ready for scruteneering that should have started at 8am.
An hour later we were having the bike checked over be the tech guy who was a SOHC enthusiast  ;D .
With everything sorted, it was just a matter of waiting for the racing to start (10.30am) and the guys from the forum to turn up.
The first to arrive were Dennis (Spitfire) and Dave (Biffta) followed a while later by Mick Puffett. Allthough I had met Mick a few times, it was real nice to put faces to Den and Dave.
After the rich readings we had encountered at the last event at North Weald, I fitted the smallest mains we had (110) for this event.
I told Chris, if he encountered any missfires to kill the motor in case we had gone to weak.
Chris was kept waiting quite a while before his first run and the motor was getting a bit on the hot side.
Sure enough, the first run produced misfiring as soon as Chris got the throttle fully open. He killed the motor and returned to the pits.
The exhaust was black as hell and the plugs very sooty. We allowed the motor to cool and cleaned the plugs.
He went out for his first official run and recorded a 12.98. He was sorta pleased as he had just run 2 hundredths of a second faster than one of the top guys riding a Triumph T140 Weslake engined Norton.
What Chis didn't know was it was still popping a bit. We had a chat and decided to richen it up a size despite the rich readings.
The bike ran fine and returned a 12.3 to the Nortons 13.11 and still showing rich.
It was now obvious that the rich readings were coming from the warm up and the slow return to the pits.
His final run was a 12.29 to the Norton 13.05, Chris had taken his first scalp ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
The rain had stayed off just long enough to make it a good day out, it started pissing it down at the prize giving that was indoors :D
A final thanks to the lads for their support and taking pics.
You can see the pics in another thread here.  http://www.sohc4.us/forums/index.php?topic=25400.0
