back in the day, my dad, a pretty sharp oakie with a mechanical common sense that was always just over built for whatever was gonna be needed to make it work, none of his projects crapped out before he did. aircraft mechanic sergeant usmc at about 18. but he made a steel 3/8 or 5/16 rod, it had a slight bend on the seal side of it and the round was cut in half and tapered back inch or so. and you insert it though the damper bolt hole and then position the slight bent side just under the seal. holding it upright looking into the seal to make sure it wasn't gonna mis and nick the seal seat, and the rod is just outside of the bottom, and tap the whole thing on the bench, tailgate or whatever. pops it right out. pretty easy to store, only i can't find where i put last. think i'm gonna try the boiling water and wd-40.
