Front brake light switch
« on: April 15, 2025, 10:28:17 AM »
CB 750 K4 stock front brake system.

I've seen a lot of posts on here about the front brake light not working.  They usually came down to a broken wire or terminal or a bad connection with the wire due to dirty terminals or loose connector.  My switch worked intermittently last season then simply went bad and needs to be replaced.  Wires are ok (touch them together without the switch in the middle and brake light works) and no continuity when switch is closed (brake engaged) with clean terminals.  I got a new switch from vintagecb.

So to replace, I am guessing I need to turn the handlebars all the way to the right, unscrew the old switch with needle nose pliers or what not, keep a catch can under the area for brake fluid, get the new one in quickly, then go thru bleeding procedure and add fluid?  Anything else?  I am sure I will figure out how to end up with more fluid on the floor or bike than in the can or in the system.

That switch is in there TIGHT, its designed so a metric 12 point socket fits, not sure what size

Do yourself a favour and use this as a chance to put in fresh brake fluid. Pull it all out (I use my Mity Vac brake bleeder), change the switch, then put in fresh. Otherwise you’ll make a mass.

Thanks guys, got it changed out and working again with a minimum of mess.

Getting the old one out and the new one properly tightened was the hardest part.  Would have need a 27 mm socket!
