I don't know how they did it but Yamiya seems to have nailed the colors for their re-pop body sets.

Honda CB550 Parts Search has officially started  :)

The very first part I bought for the earlier restoration of the Honda CB750 was mirrors.  I bought NOS and paid $100 with shipping.  Keeping with the first part to buy tradition I bought mirrors today for the Honda CB550.  I bought used (and certainly not perfect) and paid $30 (with shipping included to my shipping service in the USA for further consolidtion and shipping to me in Thailand).

Let the Money Drain Begin  :D  drip, drip, drip

Honda used the same mirrors on many models and for many years so they are readily available and are probably the easiest part to find (although many for sale on Ebay are rusted junk)

Glad to hear you are enjoying watching me be slowly tortured  ;D  Today I bought the following:

Rear grab rail (the mount on my bike has a hairline fracture)
Front fork bolt caps
Handlebar indicator bolts
Original Horn with chrome dome
Front fork boots (from Japan)
Front fork seals

I still have not found a decent original Front Fender and Rear Fender.  I am quickly learning that CB750 parts are much more available and easier to source than CB550 parts.

most of the 750 fenders will fit - the front fender was exactly the same part for many years of the 750 run and the rear almost identical with the wiring channel being the only difference!

Thanks for letting me know the fenders are the same for many years of the CB750 and CB550.  Really helps expand the search. Thank You! From my experience with the CB750 the front fender is harder to find as many have become dented, dinged, and rusted over time.  Rear fenders in decent shape are much easier to find.

Good news and I was able to find an excellent rear fender and a very good but not NOS front fender. This bike will never be a show bike so I only set out to find a very good but not perfect front fender.  Clean with no dents or dings and only minor rust.  Fender is missing the stays/brackets but I can use the old ones from the old fender as they are in good shape with good shiney chrome.

The chrome looks very good.

Thanks Mate.  Always taking a big risk when buying 50 year old used vintage Honda parts on Ebay.  I also realized that buying a fender without the stays/brackets comes with an added advantage during shipping.  The Honda parts I buy are shipped to my packing service in the US for further consolidation and shipping to me in Thailand. With no stays/brackets additional parts can be safely packed inside the fender well.  This should cut down on the package size and reduce the final  shipping cost.  Bigger boxes incur a charge based on volume not weight and are very expensive.  I need to handle this project as sensible and economical as possible.
