Center stand spring
« on: July 23, 2025, 05:51:12 PM »
Installing a new center stand spring. I couldn’t find anything strong enough, so fashioned a ring out of strands of utility wire. Used the left side of the center stand for leverage. Worked; cut wire off, done. Going to AMCA meet in Greenfield, MA this coming weekend.

I've used a drum brake spring tool, similar to this.

Good hack on it.i bend the spring sideways and slip in washers on both sides to extend the spring longer.
I plan to be at Greenfield on Saturday. I'll have a 750 shirt on and my train engineer hat on.

I use a spring puller

Works on stand springs, exhausts springs, drum brake springs, etc

Cheap to buy and easy to use as it's made for the job!

I should be rolling through Greenfield around 7am on my way to meet a group in Pownal at 8:30 then on to a Royal Enfield dealership open house in Albany. I might be riding VT100 eastbound in the afternoon. I'll text you Stu, maybe we can ride a few miles together.

Well I went to Greenfield today, might not go tomorrow because of the heat(see the 25 rides in 2025). Almost got heat stroke today. Have to see how I am in the am.....

On fresh builds, I find it easiest to hook up the spring and then slide the hinge tube in. If done before installing the swing arm it’s ridiculously easy….

I didn't know about this event....definitely going to put it in my schedule book for next year. Greenfield MA is the where the US Tap and Die Industry really started. It would be cool to check this place out

Cool video as I rode over there yesterday for the AMCA Swapmeet and Show,  rode through Miller's Falls, Turners Falls and over to Shelburne Falls. A great day of hot riding but well worth it.
