Niche Chain Lube
« on: August 09, 2025, 04:58:24 PM »
Installed an inexpensive (non “0” ring) chain and sprocket kit (Amazon)on my cb750K3 yesterday.  Decent stuff and the chain came with a small tube of oil. Came out like thick honey, about that colour too. Put +80 miles on the bike today and the lube stayed on the chain and didn’t spray all over everything else….. Searched around a bit and it appears they include it with their chains, but don’t sell it on its own. Appears to be good stuff……Too bad.

Wow! Shades of 1969!
When the 750 came blasting out & breaking chains, the DID company jumped in with their "Heavy Duty" #530 chain and a small tube of goo, and a hard-to-assemble master link. They supposed it was the "weak link" for the bike before Honda found the real reasons. It was in a silver-and-black tube, looked like 90w oil to me.
See SOHC4shop.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

Blood is thicker than water, but motor oil is thicker yet...so, don't mess with my SOHC4, or I might have to hurt you.

I have had excellent results from PJ1 black lable.  Comes out of spray can straw as thin foamy liquid and quickly turns to sticky honey consistency on contact, directions say best to use on just ridden warm chain.  A little goes a long way and the spray is easy to control- just the tiniest dribble!  Can has been going over 15 years now.

To be honest, I don't really lube my chains until they are on the way out.  I run sealed chains.  You have to keep them clean!  When they start to get really worn, a good lube just squeezes another couple thousand miles out.
If it works good, it looks good...

Same here….👍
But it can attract dirt sitting still….😕
Only I use it on new ones too..keeps the rollers quiet..

I suspect the non “0” ring chain might not be any better. My son is lucky if he gets out with us 2-3 times a year and I rarely use the K3 so it might outlast me!
