RIP Ozzy
« on: July 24, 2025, 02:43:13 PM »
Surprised nobody's posted yet, but RIP to the Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne. Those early Black Sabbath records are untouchable, and they basically invented a genre (that sprouted its own sub-genres). All the stuff that came later -- the TV show, for example -- can't reduce the impact of his and the band's contributions.

I never saw them. Had the opportunity, but wasn't into high ticket prices and stadiums. I imagine some folks here might have seen Sabbath in those early days...

It was awesome, they blew up the PA and had a 45 minute intermission while they fixed it. Then they finished the show. We were about 100' feet away from the stage in the middle of the floor.

Yeah, Ozzy. Incredible showman right up to end.
I watched some clips from the last show. He gave it his all. It's like he knew the end was near and gave the fans one more shot.
He leaves behind a huge body of influential work. Definitely a pivotal figure in the annuals of Rock & Roll.

Black Sabbath may be the one band I can't ever get too much of...

I have a vivid memory of being 19 years old, driving home in the wee hours of a rainy autumn morning, mechanically perfect but clapped out body, primer black Plymouth Fury speeding west on I94, Sabbath in the tape deck, house speakers in the back seat just blasting...

Surprised nobody's posted yet, but RIP to the Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne.

We've posted in the "what are you listening to" thread about Ozzie...RIP.

I never saw Sabbath but I saw Ozzie in '96 at Austin's Southpark Meadows, was basically just a field with a stage, sadly now it's a shopping center.

The setlist from the show the day before...

I saw Ozzie back on the last day of January 1981 in Toledo, OH. It was the Blizzard of Ozz tour the year before Randy crashed in FL. The ride home that normally would have been a little over an hour (all interstate) took almost two and a half hours in blizzard conditions. Old rear wheel drive 72' Lemans on bias ply tires...

Good times! :D

LOL! I thought so as well. It was raining when we got there, not good for the last day of January in Northern Ohio. When the show let out the roads had frozen, the rain had turned to snow, so we had snow on top of ice. Once the snowfall rates cranked up and got a good snowpack on the road it wasn't too bad. The other three people in the car with me were completely freaked out to the point that no one would speak. I tried a couple times to generate some conversation to no avail. Nothing left to do but put Ozzy on the 8-track and crank it up! One of my more memorable concerts.  8)
