I put my 1974 550K engine back together and am doing all the fine-tuning stuff - valve lash, throttle cables, etc. - and thanks to the forum I learned something that is very misleading in the Clymer manual regarding the lower case clutch adjuster, that little nut and slotted screw you have to turn on the outside of the clutch cover. The manual only says "loosen the locknut and turn the adjuster" but it doesn't tell you that the adjuster on the 1974 CB550K should be turned
counterclockwise, NOT clockwise, until you feel resistance and then back it off an eighth of a turn and everything lines up fine, even those two dots on the case and the clutch arm!
I was having a helluva time trying to find that 'resistance' by turning it clockwise until I did some digging in here and came across this post from a guy who was having the same problem:
http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,59314.25.html He references the 'turn to the LEFT' advice in the second post from the end, so I did it that way and sure enough, everything's fine,
now. I was beginning to question my life choices when I discovered that; and while it's something
you may already know, I did Not - but now I do! So I thought I would pass it along as a reminder to anybody struggling with the same problem.
Now back to the garage, to adjust my throttle cables!
