Painting side cover emblems
« on: September 30, 2025, 03:37:29 PM »
Anyone painted 350F emblems lately?

I've painted side cover and tank emblems before with acrylic model paint like Testors with good results, 350F and 550F. I'm about to do it again, but don't have paint on hand and will likely have to order online, so I won't be able to see it in front of me. Anyone paint 350F emblems lately, and if so -- what (specific) colors did you use? Thanks in advance.

Im assuming this is for a 72/73?
I just noticed when my 73 and 74 were parked side by side that they are different paint schemes
The white is a cream white not brite white.
The 73 is the same color as the tank stripe
The 74 is more yellow/ gold

My right side had some chrome damage, so I just bought new replicas that look identical.  I figured my time was worth more than what I  spent on them, however, if you're wanting originals, then you'll have to restore yours.

Looks like mine in a gloss orange and definitely matches the tank stripe.  Its a pure gloss orange.
Looks like testors 1127 would be a good match.
Or get an 1126 and 1127 and mix untill its perfect. In person it looks like pure orange.

I mask these off and use a airbrush. What method do you use?

Awesome, thanks for this! I've got a few sets of emblems with original paint but it's always hard to tell what the original color was with fading -- some for the CBO tank. The VMR paint I used is a little darker than any of the original paint CBO tanks I've seen, but those are 50+-year-old tanks.

I mask and use a small model paint brush. In the past I've thinned it a little so it flows better into corners, and then used a second or third coat. This also prevents brush strokes. And a little pick if some gets outside the lines...
