drilled handlebars

I want some lower handlebars so I look cool.  :P Was thinking satin black, but I don't see alot of pics of them. Should i try to get the bars drilled with the OEM holes? Thanks

 If your bike came with the wires inside, drilled ones makes sense. Otherwise, you have to modify the controls to route the wires outside. Also, the bars carry a ground for some circuits, so paint or powder coat might be an issue.

Thanks Don. Just talking with my son looking at pics online. I think chrome would be better anyway. Lots of black up front already. I think Euro bars are close to what I want.

Euro bars are good and 400F bars are popular as well...

If you are going to drill the bars, you've got to be careful. First, the wiring for the switches is 50 years old and can be brittle. You can always lube it with something to make it slide in and through better, and I tie something like fishing line to the end to route that through the bars first to make it easier. You've also got to file down the inner and outer edges of the bars to make sure that when you route the wiring it doesn't cut the housing.

I've done both -- threading and notching the switch housing to route the wires externally. The latter is much easier, the former looks better...

You didn't say what bike you were putting the bars on. That is always helpful for finding what you want and is helpful for others later on that find your thread doing a web search or forum search.

As to wires inside the bars, yes you will need to verify the edges inside especially have been smoothed off, no sharp edges to cut the sheath or wires.

A heat gun is your friend on getting the wire loom out of the bars and back in another set. Heat the bars up to soften the sheath(it's hard and brittle holding folds and bends after all this time. The when putting it back in, I take a piece of  new wire with a hook bent in and carefully tape it to the end of the loom to add a little pull power to get it in as you carefully guide the other end in the hole
heat the sheath so it is soft again. Yes a little dialectic grease helps too.

I have the euro bars on my K5 750 and like the stance for my back and the look. You will need to get shorter cables and brake hose too.

DO NOT drill undrilled bars, Honda reinforced the bars where the wires come out and i have seen b ordinary bars break where that hoe was made
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!

You may not "need" to but the Euro bikes with these bars have a diff part number.

I've gotten away without replacing cables, just a little different routing. Throttle cables, for example, with a little bend forward before they go back toward the carbs...

Don, I assume DSS is David Silver Spares? Never ordered from them - I assumed shipping would be really expensive? Looks like maybe it's out of stock when I looked for it.

what is the difference between the Honda Euro bars - part number 53100-300-610, and the bars that are part number 53100-341-000? I see the numbers interchanged on some sites

If you can't find drilled bars and don't mind changing your controls, GL1000 switch gear routes the wires outside the bars and still has a "period" look.
