70’ 750 k0 gas tank decals?
« on: December 06, 2025, 08:03:24 AM »
I believe my painter was/is overwhelmed when I asked to “paint the striping” so now I’m thinking decals to get the ball rolling! I’m not a painter but it seems so much easier than trying to paint them..? Plus I guess he’s not charging that much(500.00)? That’s for the whole body set minus air box. Opinions? Tia  oh ruby red

Yes, decals much easier than painting the same decal like pattern.  Many more steps involved and could bump your paint job cost 50% or so (guessing).

Decals will look nice if you get quality decals and install them properly, then clear coated over them.

For $500...you basically are paying slave wages for highly skilled labor...that is if he is in fact highly skilled.

On the stripe, imagine trying to measure it for layout...neither the stripe nor the tank has anything straight or square.
If it works good, it looks good...

I've used decals from 2 sources, and both were good.

who is now
https://www.diablocycle.com/

and
https://cbdecals.afegraphics.com/index.php?&cat_id=8

cbdecals was closed the last time I needed some, so went with diablocycle.

both out of Canada..

AFE Graphics is a few miles from me. He supplies Diablo. Excellent quality stuff. If they are out of stock, I think I have a few sets of the gold 1969-72 stripes in my shop.

Thanks for the input, I think I’m leaning more towards the decal route:)

I bought this set of K0 K1 black stripe decals for my Candy Gold K1.   Gold paint shows through the thin and thick stripes.  I can't comment on quality or ease of application and I will most likely never use them as I bought a new tank with hand painted stripes.  The stripe decals will  just sit in storage along with a rust treated, epoxy primered tank

Late Edit:  Photo was taken in the full sun and the outer plastic film covering is reflecting the light - making the stripes appear lighter.   They are very dark, inky black, and high gloss

If I had a tank that looked that good, I would polish it up and leave it “original”……

Actually, I do! It’s on my Sandcast.

Here’s what I found. I always order two sets at a time (so if there is a screw up I can still move ahead). These were for the Sandcast Project that I never painted. If you want them, check your PM’s.
