You  need about 5mm clearance minimum  , it’s hard to see in the picture how much you have got . Any less and on overrun it will eat the edge of the tyre .

That is pretty much what I´ve got right now with the wheel centered behind the front wheel, 5 mm both between the tire as well as the upright brace on the swingarm.
I´ll give this a go, and if it rubs I´ll probably offset the wheel the needed amount and see if it is noticeble at all.

you wont notice a few mm with a tyre that size , on most production bikes the wheel is never in the right place anyway

Replaced the old tire that was mounted on the new rim with a new Michelin Road 5 to match the front.
Also made a new brake stay to allow clearence for the wider tire and the exhaust.

And the Mikuni RS36's has been completely torn down, cleaned up and reassembled with new gaskets, o-rings and fuel mixture screws.

The bike was run with stacks on the strip, but I'll look for a set of KN-filters before I'll run it on the street.
The carbs needed a good clean up after having sat for 20 years, but they cleaned up nicely with no problems found along the way  :)

there was a Martin for sale on FB here a couple of weeks ago, a GSX11 i think, for $10K aus ( about $6.5K US ),

two things prevented me ( and probably Terry ) from making a quick interstate trip, i didn't have $10K spare , though i could have probably scrounged it up, and there's no way i could fold my ancient and decrepit frame onto one of the most desirable bikes known to man

so i compromised yesterday and got terry to get his bike trailer out and bought an 89 CBR250R MC19 for a few hundred dollars, its a project obviously and will take its place in the queue, and if you are thinking well how is he going to fit on a CBR250R if he won't fit on a moto martin, i probably won't but i'll either sell it once its running or it'll become a piece of lounge room art
i blame Terry

Its a regular 180/55-17, and as for "stick" its more than enough for me.
I'm running the same tire on my FZR and was able to easily scrub off all chicken strips while fully loaded on a touring trip in Norway  :D

Well... I´m "only" 51 years young myself, but with a fused neck (C5-C6), a collar bone that has been smashed beyond all recognition and now is an inch to short, an elbow that cannot be fully straightened, and an overall height of 192 cm, the riding position will be a struggle for me too...   ;)

But hey, the one with the most titanium in the body in the end wins   ;D

Felt the need to get the Martin off the lift and down on the ground to test the new stance and riding position.
The changes done so far will work great for me, and the difference in appearence is huge.

Well... here´s a couple of pics of other Martins where I´ve extended the line of the swingarm to be able to compare the angle of the swingarm to the frame.
Mine is the last one.
I´d say the angle is more or less spot on, I will see how it rides and make necessary adjustments if needed.

it might be worth checking the chain tension through the full travel of the rear shock . it might get tight at full travel .
your work is always good and you know what your doing but another person looking at something can sometimes help .

Do you have a picture of the chain side of the bike? The chain will be at the tightest point in the travel when the front sprocket, swing-arm pivot, and axle centers are in line. Also, how much does the suspension sag when you sit on the bike?
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

The chain tension will of course be adjusted so it has enough slack to not get to tight at full travel of the swingarm.
The swingarm is also protected by a plastic chain protector made out of Delrin that leads the chain over the swingarm pivot.

As for the sag it will be adjusted once the bike is fully back together, no point in doing that now as there are so many parts missing.
But right now the chain clears the chain protector when I sit on the bike.

New exhaust studs fitted to the head to replace the old screws that was used to hold the exhaust on earlier.
Exhaust fitted with clearence to the wider tire as well as the new rear brake stay.

The holes for the headlights has been taken up to the correct sizes, and next on the agenda is to start to build the fairing brackets.
