Ever ride a Hyabusa ?
« on: May 21, 2007, 06:32:59 PM »
This last weekend I got the chance to spend some time on a 2006 decked out Hyabusa, it was stretched and lowered with a shaved seat, it had a titanium pipe, NOS and an air shifter.

First of all being a short fella I loved the lowered part, but if you are over 5' 8" this bike was not for you. It was the first fuel injected bike I ever rode and all I can say is WOW that's smooth. I didn't much care for the lengthen swing arm, the bike was sluggish in to the turns.

Being my wife's cousins bike I took it pretty easy, at least till I was out of ear shot. As I rode the bike longer and harder I kept expecting it to do something amazing, But I rode it harder, twisted the throttle farther, and still, just smooth, very fast, but smooth.
Riding the bike around a local country club I came up on a couple corners going much faster than I expected, and still very well behaved. I was almost disappointed, I was expecting a beast, an unruly barbarian of a motorcycle, but it was not.

My expectations of performance were based on the only fast bike I have in my garage and that is a 1990 zx 10 with 140ish jets, some work on the air box a Vance and Hinds SS exhaust.

I must say, I was very happy today, riding the old, cheap, beast to work. I think it would hold up well head to head, and for about $13,000 less and no full coverage ins.

they are awsome bikes for sure! the swing arm takes alittle to get used to, but on a drag strip it makes a big difference. if you think thats fast, try a zx14 with the same hop up.

Busa's are big bikes, and get up and scoot very well.
ZX-14's do it even better...

Never ridden one but the ones I've seen around here don't screw around like some of the "Sportbike" riders I've seen. Those "Busa" riders just start off down the road and, when the traffic clears up in front of them, they're gone! :o ;D There is one that is especially nice looking. It is black with no markings or anything else and it just looks the part. 8)

                                            Later on, Bill :) ;)

i've ridden several busas and they never fail to disappoint... you obviously didn't wack the throttle wide open  ;)   that would've been your amazing WOW moment.

every one seems to have fallen head over heals w/ the zx14... well, here's one guy who thinks they SUCK...   did you guys even bother to step back and look at it?  the only reason someone should buy such a ghastly and ugly motorcycle is if they already date a fat chick.

my own opinion of course  ^

and another thing... i think it was the 99 busa (before they put the 200 mph restriction on production bikes) will always be the fastest "off the showroom floor" bike... nothing like owning a bike that proved it was possible.

Heffay, if you had said the same things about a cafe bike, or a Carpy bike (Heaven forbid  ::)), you'd be tarred and feathered on this board.  I don't really care about the ZX14, but if I'd spent the $12K for one, I might be a bit upset.

Well, didn't somebody have posts deleted and almost get banned for saying something negative about turning stockers into cafe bikes recently?

It wasn't me, by the way!!!

And no, I don't care what you do with your bikes or your money, as long as it doesn't stop me from enjoying mine.

I'm gonna have to agree with heffay, either the bike wasn't set up properly or maybe right for drag racing but not the street.  A stock busa will burn the tire right of the wheel if you're at cruising speed and crank it.

As for aesthetics the "Gentlemens Express" segment just doesn't do it for me.  the busa is a bulbous hog and the ZX just looks cheap under that plastic.

Oh..........., I left some streaks and found about 150 on the dial, i"m just sayin compared to my hopped up 1990 ZX10, 10ths of seconds and 10's of thousands of dollars considered I'll stick to the vintage zx 10. Besides it's  better looking anyway and most of them are long gone.

Just my humble opinion

i agree mason... my 92 zx7r does it for me too.  between my cafe350f and that... i have trouble getting out of the garage sometimes.  i just wanna stay there and pet them and never go to sleep.

i'm not sure if i'd survive but, my garage would be much more complete with a 93 cbr900rr too.  the bug eye rocket era is my vice.

The owner of the local Suzuki dealership was telling me once that he thought the busa actually made a great sport touring bike with some soft saddle bags and slightly taller bars.

As long as you don't overload the back and then crack the sub frame!

A bit opinionated on that one, are we? :D ;D At least you would not have to beef up the rear subframe like on a Bus.

i'll agree there again too, KB.
when my gf and i took our las vegas trip we travelled w/ another guy who had a busa w/ bags galore... he looked a lot more comfortable than i did, mile after mile.  the big bikes are so stretched out they're about the only option for the big tall guys.
don't get me wrong... i've made myself pretty comfortable laying on top of most any tank.  it usually involves kicking the right knee out and putting the heal of my boot on the tip of the peg then wedging my right forearm between the throttle and the right knee while laying the left arm strategically on the tank to then rest my head atop of that.
ahhh... the art of long distance on otherwise very uncomfortable bikes  :D

Don't tell anybody, but.... :-X.... my zx 10 had risers on it when I bought it. I can sit nearly straight up on it with both hands on the bars, then of course there is the feet on the back pegs leaning on the left arm on the tank, I usually save that for the interstate and rain

And as far as tall goes I can barley back my bike out of a tight spot WITH NO AIR in the shock, I usually just get off and do it, or just don't park it where I'll have to back out ;D
