I am about 90% sure that I am gonna do a streetfighter for my next "project". I have always liked the industrial/mad max look of a well done streetfighter. And when I mean well done, I mean a bike that has actually had some time/effort/thought put into it, and not just a old ratty crotchrocket some ass clown is too cheap to replace the plastics on..

So, the bike below is my insparation for the next build --->
This bike just screams "I AM GONNA KICK YOUR #$%*ING ASS !", as all streetfighters should (i think).  I am gonna try to get my scoot looking as mean as this one does, with a more funky exhaust. I especially like the chopper style long headlite and especially what they did with the seat.

I am currently on the hunt for a donor rocket bike to cutup, so we shall see what I get my gruby little hands on. I know this is a SOHC board, so I will be starting/updating my thread in the other bikes section (so no need for you moderators to get worried ;D)

Looks like an '07 Yamaha R1 to me.  Removed upper fairing and side cowls.  Chopped subframe.  Different or modified swingarm.  Chopped exhaust.  Galfer wave rotors.  Different headlight.  Looks neat, but fairly basic in my opinion.  I'm sure there more to it than what's on the surface and I'm not saying I could do it.  I'm just saying nothing really jumps out at me as being 'Wow, how did he do that?'

Come on PT, show them how it's done!   ;D

I am pretty sure it started life as an R1.
The bike was on ebay up for sale a year or 2 ago.
I am kinda going to use this bike as a "template" so to speak, then go on from their..

I have used the term "Mad Max Look" in trying to describe what I am doing with my CB350F.  When you use the term "Industrial/Mad Max Look", I get a clearer idea of what I have been thinking of for the past 20 years.  Thanks for the inspiration.

Not a problem  ;D
I have always been a fan of the "industrial" look, weather it be in a building or a motorcycle.
I think the bike above, with a custom exhaust and some brushed/raw alum. highlites would be pretty trick..

A used speed triple is def. a bike I am considering.
I am trying to find a used one locally for cheap I can start tearing apart.
I am def. a fan of the single sided swingarm (cant stand those tri spoke wheels though)..

And to address the "killing myself" statement, believe me I have thought about that.
You guys have to remember I learned how to ride on a $30,000+ BigDog that was a hardtail with a 117c.id motor. I have ridden all kinds of bikes, and have def. learned what my limitations are. Just because you have a car with 500hp doesn't mean you have to use it all the time. This bike is more of a "temp" bike, to fill the void of my CB750, have something alittle more all around rideable than the CB450, and eventually sell when I get my next bike (prob. a HD Roadking)..

Plus I wanna see what me and my buddy can make this project into  ;D

Raul

It definitely looks like a Speed Triple and I didn't understand why someone would want to make a Yami look like a stock Triumph.  Why not go in a different direction  I almost wrote that in my original post, but I didn't want my comment to be misunderstood and offend PT.

I guess it boils down that I like the look of the Yami and if wasn't for the Speed Triple existing, I would love it.

Tell you what, I also like the way the Yami looks, and in general I like a little streetfighter touch here and there. But I can't stand too many skulls, snakes or H.G. Giger inspiration -the one who created "Alien"- What I don't like at all are those ridiculous streetfighters with the rear cowls pointing up in the sky, like a peacock or worse yet, a hen asking for a cock -in both senses of the term-

NOW you're talking!

What model is that PT?  Looks like their SportsClassic line, but the bike in that picture looks different.  Swingarm.  Cleaner tailsection.

Curious to hear your riding impressions.

The bike is a 2006 Paul Smart 1000 (hence the color scheme).
They only made 2000 (i think) in 2006, and my dealer has 3 or 4 of them left on the showroom floor (new of course). The bike rode as suspected, and needs to be lowered in a bad bad way.
I am allready a member of the Ducati forums, and have been looking at things like
different mirrors/exhaust setups/a way to eliminate that horrible rear tail light thing/etc.

We shall see if the dealer wants to "deal" when I go back tomorrow... ;D
Would be sweet to have the CB450 and this to cruise on..

  • So, what do ya wanna talk about today?
The bike rode as suspected, and needs to be lowered in a bad bad way.

Why's that Proty? I've ridden one also, and thought it was a very nice handler indeed, and I didn't think the seat height was too bad? Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

All of those ducati "classic" bikes are way to high (my opinion).
The monster has a much lower seat height, and thus I am more comfortable on.
If (key word is of) end up getting a Paul smart, the first thing on my list of mods will be to lower it significantly. It is not a track bike, and I am not gonna tear corners at 90mph, so I would much rather have a flat footing on the ground (plus lower bikes look SO much cooler  ;D)

Fair enough mate, how tall are you? I'm 6'5", so had no problems putting both feet on the ground, but I'm taller than most. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Pro, How did the power feel on the Paul Smith bike? From what I've read on the Sport Classic, they seem to be a bit underpowered(I still want one in my garage). I love the retro look, but if you're going for a streetfighter, I think you should start with something a bit meaner.

I have never really rode sportbikes, so the power (to me) was more than enough. I am basically buying this bike to take the place of the just sold CB750, as something I can take on a longer ride, tollway speeds, reliable, etc.. The CB450 is cool, but it has it's limitations.

As far as the height goes, everyone knows I like my bokes as low as possibile. I am just about 6'' tall, and really didnt have a problem with my fleet touching the ground, but they def. werent flat. I have seen way too many people dump their bikes becasue their feet dont touch the ground. Plans call (if i buy it) to lower the front a 1'' or so, and get a shorter shock for the rear. And then makeup a custom exhaust, bar end mirrors, open clutch cover (so the world can hear the dry clutch), etc  ;D ;D ;D

I agree, but the training wheels don't really ad to the streetfighter theme IMO.

What??? Just a couple of months ago I took mhy 750K1 on a day trip, adding 300 miles on the odometer, with no qualms whatsoever. I bet you a CB is way more confortable than the Paul Smart replica, not to say the price of spares or tune ups.

I can't help coveting new sportbikes, but when I think of the selling price and what I paid and what it costs to run my CB750, it definitely wins on the satisfaction-cost per mile hands down.

I am not saying the CB450 isn't capable of being my only bike, I just don't feel comfortable having it be my only bike. With how low it is, and how small it feels under me I cant imagine tearing down the tollway at 70mph on that little thing. The cb450 is def. a stoplight racer, which works out wel in the city for how small and "nimble" it is..The bumps on chicago's tollways would send the bike going in one direction and me in the other without a thought. Thus why I want to get a modern/more reliable bike that I can take out when I wanna go on a all day trip and put 200 miles on it, ride to and from work and not get crap splashed on me from not having a front fender, etc...
