Sure, a 750 will do the ton pretty easy, I've done it...and you know those speedo's are real "optimimistic.  Earlier in the thread guys had some good car stories...how about 115 in a '73 Oldsmobile Omega that was so rusty the quarter panels were flapping loudly in the wind...oh yeah...it had a straight six...and took considerable time getting there ;D
If it works good, it looks good...

I have a kz1100 which is basically a shaft drive version of the gpz...I had it to somewhere around 110 (not too sure because the speedo only goes to 85, even though the rpm's keep increasing)

Very fun bike!

I have been a fan of the big Kawas fours, since the 900 came out and I really like this GPZ, it's too bad that your speedometer only goes to 85, I am that way, with my '80 CBX, I can't really take IT up to whatever if might do, as if I peg the speedometer, it will bend the needle and I don't want to have to get the speedo rebuilt, it is too costly. So I just settle with what I can do with that one and will save my high speed ventures for the GPZ which (as you probably know) registers 160. At this point though, I'm not just sure how far I will push this one.  I HAVE been told that about 150 or so, is the usual top end.  I'm sure that KZ1100 is a good runner too. ;)

about 123-125mph  @ about 9200 rpm valves float past that and before you say it I have the 74 cb550 four and yes that model will do that although all the others that came after will only go 105mph also new aftermarket sprockets are not right and are a detriment to this model year so plan on customs if you want the bike to still be able to do that after you replace them or live with 105 mph

Looking at the older moto magazines tests, the 1100 will go around 146 top end, but I am not brave enough to take it up there. These bikes are 30+ years old and I am not willing to bet my life on something that old.

A new bike is much more stable/reliable...built for speeds...suspension, brakes, etc...I am not trying to see what it's capable of, just trying to have a lil fun

I remember hitting 170 kph on my 75 CB 750 back in the day. Have no idea what the taco said, as, as soon as the needle hit 170kph I backed off. I think even than as a young "hoon" that was to damn fast. I still dont go fast even now. Mostly cruise at around 110-115 kph.

Yeah, have to admit that now days, I get to thinking about things like something running out in front of me, something failing, and also IF a cop came over the horizon and spotted me, I would be doomed. Back in the day, I didn't think about things like that. Still like to push things a bit, just not full out. ;)

yeah very good point since when I did my ride at that speed it was about 4 am and passed a cop all I could see in the mirror was a blurr  of blue and red lights I knew it was the sherrif and I knew him and he knew me and he knew where I lived so I stopped and waited for him to catch up he decided not to impound my bike and not to give me the full ticket or tell my dad since i stopped and waited for him but looking back he was right I could have out run him but I also could have died doing it if one of our numerous deer jumped out in front of me (southwest Michigan ) P.S. the ticket cost me 140$ for 100 in a 45 but he clocked me at 123mph that same ticket now days would cost you a driver responsibility fee of 600.00/quarter till it fell off (3 years) and 410.00 for the ticket and possibly even driver responsibility school

Unfortunately, my 650's speedo tops out at 85, buuuut the tach sure doesn't!  Hit about 98mph at 95-9600 RPM.  From clocking myself around town, I'm allways about "three higher" than my RPMs, so pretty easy to figure.  I've only done it a couple of times though.  The bike handled well enough, but I just am not experienced enough for those speeds.  Much happier at 55-60ish.

71 CB 750k1 ... 120 mph ... 8000 rpm.  I was stopped by RCMP as I was slowing for doing 80 in a 60.

I remember many times shifting out of 4th gear at 105 mph while passing ... but then again I was almost 40 years younger at the time and infallible.  I think you loose your infallibilty when you turn 25  ::)

2002 Triumph Sprint St 955 -140+, just a couple months ago. Wasn't really watching the tach, but she had a lot of legs left in her. Probably wouldn't repeat it, it was a new bike and I was curious. Crashed her last week, but the insurance settlement was super generous, and they let me keep it, she will rise again.

Uh-oh...my most recent test indicates 122 MPH top speed with my Vetter. I guess it's time to pull it down and freshen things up inside.

I can't really say I hate the idea, though!  :)

Being 50 years young. Having had the bike since end of May. I will proudly say I have been to 90 MPH. I know the bike had something left in it, but I didn't. I will try for 100 MPH before putting it up for the winter. I will post here the milestone when it occurs.

SOHC4 WOT:

78 750F with a 75K engine: bounced around 105MPH. RPMs unknown.

Non-SOHC4 WOT:

77 KZ400: 90MPH, RPMs unkown
KLX400: 90MPH. No tach
07 V - Strom 1000: GPS claimed 107MPH. Front sprocket is -1 and it was loaded down with cargo. It wasn't WOT due to the cargo causing a wobble.

Now, I HAVE previously posted about my '66 Honda Hawk, years ago. But I have seen where OTHER brands have been included, so here's another post from me.

1983 Kawasaki GPZ1100, 100mph (so far) with plenty of throttle left.  ;)

               (115 and climbing, in the '07 Charger R/T though  ;D )

I once took my dad's '07 Dodge Charger R/T all the way to 143 and was still in 4th gear  :o
Shifted into 5th but the car has a governor.  I was 17 years old coming home from my girlfriends house. Luckily i was on a 4 mile straight  at 3am with no cars or cops.  ;D

Also took his '06 Victory Ness Jackpot to 125MPH on the I10 freeway at 1am. Wasn't very smart of me but what can I say.
If he read this now he'd probably kill me, literally! haha

145+ indicated on my '79 GS750E that I modified a bit (LOL) in 4th gear at 7,500 rpm. (Redline is now 10,500 with the S & W valve springs/custom made larger in and ex valves)
Bored over 1000 engine to 1100cc's at 10.75:1 compression ratio, 29mm smoothbore carbs, etc. in the 750 frame with 2.56:1 rear final drive ratio.
Broke the needle off the speedo:

Still own the bike and it regularly sees 135 loafing in 5th gear.
Yes, it has V-Rated tires.

"Frankencycle" it even has a Yamaha XS750 headlight.
Yoshi headers into 3" exhaust to a 2.25" tail outlet.
