RIDE TO WORK DAY - Wed July 16th 2007
« on: July 12, 2007, 06:47:27 AM »
Someone passed this onto me.....

Motorcycle and Scooter Ride to Work Day is next Wednesday

Motorcycle and scooter riders' 16th annual commuting day is Wednesday, July 18th. Participation in the yearly demonstration is estimated to triple the number of riders on the road. Motorcycle and scooter groups and organizations actively encourage riders to commute by cycle on this day. On Ride to Work Day, motorcycle and scooter commuters seek improved employer recognition and support for this form of transportation and increased public and government awareness of the positive value of riding.

Adding more motorcycles and scooters to everyone's daily commute makes urban parking easier and traffic flow better, according to Ride to Work, a non-profit advocacy organization. Studies have also shown that across the same distances, motorcyclists reach their destinations faster than those using automobiles. Many motorcycles and scooters also consume less resources per mile than automobiles. "Riding to work on this day is fun and shows the positive value of motorcycling. For many people, riding is a socially responsible form of mobility that saves energy, helps the environment and provides a broad range of other public benefits," stated Andy Goldfine, this year's event organizer.

I think this is the second year in a row that I have the day off. That's okay. I'll go for a ride anyway.  :)

Commute on my bike anyways :)
Would be great seeing a lot of other bikes out there.
For some reason there is a limited amount of them on the roads here in the SF Bay Area, or at least between Fremont and Palo Alto.

Funny you should say that.  My wife is in SF just now, and says she's been seeing *lots* of bikes.  Maybe it is all relative.

I already commute on my bike everyday. Sometime get to take the long way home.  ;)

I was just in SF in April.  They have tons of bikes there.  At one point there was an entire city block marked with motorcycle parking and it was crammed.  Probably saw 75 bikes in that space.

Not to piggy back on everyone else but I know there's a lot of bikes in the area.  Just take a look at craig's list, there's at least 6 pages of bikes any given day.  It suprises me how many more there are compared to even LA.  Strange, maybe they're just buying and selling, not riding.   ;)  Seriously though, last time I was up there I did see a ton of bikes parked but not alot of them on the road.

And I thought every day was Ride to Work Day, or is it work to ride day, I forget.  Either way, I'll be on 2 wheels Wed.

I ride to work every day. Work sometime involves 6 miles to the office but at least twice per week involves 100+ miles each way around the south of England.  It hasn't stopped raining since April. I wear my winter oversuit most days. :'(

Steve,

We'll trade you something for a bit of that rain. It's been pretty dry around here for weeks. Great riding weather but lawns with little shade are starting to look like straw.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.
