Fog
« on: August 01, 2007, 05:12:59 AM »
How do you deal with riding in fog?  I was a "Pea Souper" this morning, visor up and within seconds I couldn't see out of my glasses, visor down and the damn thing fogged up just as bad inside as outside.  Any tips or tricks?

elizabeth and i were in a fog like that last year... we were about to head out in rush hour traffic thru denver on the interstate w/ zero visibility.  we had nowhere to be at a certain time so we drank coffee at deny's for the next hour.

fog+traffic=don't do it
fog+light traffic and a bit of visibility=i can handle it

Well divers use an anti-fog spray and put it on the inside and outside of their masks.

Only problem, had to go to work :(.  Overall visiablity would have been 75 to 100 yards, I just couldn't get to the main drag to get to speed to blow it off the helmet before everything was covered.  That and I find my vents are the pits on my helmet.  Somebody needs to make a battery powered defogger for helmets.

Well divers use an anti-fog spray and put it on the inside and outside of their masks.

I've tried anti-fogging sprays on my glasses when I worked cold storage, worked for about 5min.  Might just have to try it again.

I just keep wiping it off. A lot of gloves have a wiper on the thumb or you could try this http://www.aerostich.com/product.php?productid=16506

Now theres an idea, might have to get one to try.

Keep wiping the outside, and you can also try rubbing in a drop of dishsoap or shampoo on the inside of the visor until dry, that seemed to work the best on a hockey helmet visor when I played. But that fog is a bit.. alright

.....accept that you will take longer to get to wherever you are going, and plan accordingly. Decrease speed (of course) and ride even more defensively than usual. Stop as often as necessary to wipe off your visor

Try to ride away from the busy roads since a significant number of drivers regard fog as an excuse to drive like idiots.

Move to hereabouts where we seldom, if ever, have enough moisture in the air to produce fog.

Someone (Jonsey?) mentioned this product some time ago. I haven't tried it yet. I guess I have to wait for some cooler/colder weather.

We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Its the best weather forcast for a nice hot riding day, drops about 5 AM and lifts by 9 AM.  None this morning, calling for showers.

My helmet does a pretty good job of not fogging on the inside.  If it does, I crack the visor open a little and exhale down.  We went for a ride last weekend and it was 100 ft visibility for a good while, I was wiping my visor with my glove every 30 seconds or so.

Well divers use an anti-fog spray and put it on the inside and outside of their masks.

They also spit on the inside of their masks and smear it around to keep them from fogging up.  Never tried it before, but I assume it works fairly well.

i totally forgot about "fogcity" liners for your visor.

less than 20 bucks and they are tinted in multiple colors like smoke, amber, clear, etc.

i had the amber version for quite some time... easy install, no more fog!!  they scratch easier than a visor will so use caution in choosing your cleaning cloth.  also, make sure there is no moisture or cleaning residue between the visor and fog city liner or it will suck a lot... the whole point is to have a layer of air between the two pieces w/ doesn't allow fogging of the visor.

mine worked great and i finally took it out when it was too scratched... i'll probably spend another 17 or 18 bucks for one soon.
