Sadly I listened to that song on the AM radio in my 59 Chevy.

           Sounds to me like you guys are trying to reverse TIME and I hate to tell you this but, "IT WON"T WORK!!!!!!"  

           BTW Bobby, I used to listen to that stuff on "KAAY, The Mighty 10.90 On Your Radio Dial!" "50,000 Watts!" (in Little Rock, Arkansas) Late at night, I'd listen to WLS (I think that was what it was called) out of Chicago. In the mid 60's, I thought I had it made with my 56' Plymouth and it's factory radio with front & rear speakers along with my Motorola "Vibrasonic" reverberator. My rear speakers were in Drive-in movie speaker housings and could be moved out away from the car so that the tunes could be heard better when picnicing, or whatever> Still have those speaker housings BTW.

Oh I know you cannot turn back time. I listened to WABC out of NYC which is where I am from. On Sunday nights they went to some Religious Talk shows. We all listened to WBKW out of Buffalo NY. On a good night we would get a station out of Ft Wayne Indiana. Oh yeah the sweet sound of low fidelity through a Motorola reverb unit. I worked at a stereo store so I had 4 speakers.

Oh I know you cannot turn back time. I listened to WABC out of NYC which is where I am from. On Sunday nights they went to some Religious Talk shows. We all listened to WBKW out of Buffalo NY. On a good night we would get a station out of Ft Wayne Indiana. Oh yeah the sweet sound of low fidelity through a Motorola reverb unit. I worked at a stereo store so I had 4 speakers.

           "4 Speakers!!"  Whoa!! Sounds like you were in HIGH STYLE there, Bobby. Before my reverb, I thought the "FADER SWITCH" was the IN thing. Now, some folks fill about 1/2 of their vehicle with "Equipment" and all you can hear on the outside, is BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! Makes me wish I had a high powered stereo with a Venture's tape playing something like Pipeline or Walk Don't Run. (or the Safari's w/ Wipeout)!

Bill, I think the evening DJ on WLS was a guy named Dick Biondi.
We could pick up KAAY from Tulsa after sunset, but my favorite station was WNOE in New Orleans.
I wish I had that '57 Ford now.  Yep, I had the reverb too.  And baby moons.

          Hey okie, I had forgotten about that one in New Orleans. Now that I think about it, it seems like I could also pick one up from either Tulsa or Oklahoma City, don't remember which and I also don't remember the call letters either. One time, while I was stationed at Charleston AFB SC, I was out side messing with my car (58' Chevy Impala) at around midnight (couldn't sleep) the local station went off the air. Well, I immediately started looking for another station to listen to and the station I found was talking about the Robinson Auditorium and I thought, there's one in Little Rock!!!! Then, I heard the familiar, "KAAY, The Mighty 10.90!!!" Man, I was in HOG Heaven (Razorback Hog, that is! ) It never happened again, that I know of. Of course I wasn't up that late just messing around like that very often, I had to be up and running in the mornings. The DJs I remember from KAAY were "Doc Holiday", "Rob Robbins" (his theme song was "Rockin' Robin") and "George J. Jennings"

LOL I was just giving you guys a hard time! I'm 37 and getting more grey hair everytime I look in the mirror, so I'm a GHOF too. I remember records, 8-tracks, AM-jam, etc. too. In fact I remember telling my mom that I preferred riding in her '71 LTD to Dad's '65 Mustang just because it had an FM radio.

I beleive that every 8 Track player had to come with a Matchbook so you could adjust the crosstalk.
I worked in a stereo store so I could take apart the junk speakers and I put them in my car. Some guy had us put a sound system in his Caddie so we pulled out all his stuff and I then transplanted his suff into my Chevy. Now I had AM/FM and the magic reverb. I was quite the chick magnet in my Army green 59 Chevy, straight six and 2 speed powerglide.

When I started driving that same Mustang, years later, it didn't even have the AM radio in it. It was still cool though (still is - sitting alone in Dad's garage.... but I digress). The first car that was "mine" was a '69 Torino GT I got for $500 from a neighbor. 351 4V, FMX tranny, 1/4 panel with 1" of Bondo.  The AM radio was removed in favor of a $25 Kraco AM/FM/Cassette. I just sold that car 3 years ago. I saw one at a car show this past Saturday and it really got me to missing it. I still have the original Philco AM radio though.

You guys are killing me with nostalgia. You are bringing back too many good memories. Cars, Drive Ins, Cruising, Street Racing with my 67 Stang, yeah I made some money. Listening to Cousin Brucie on WABC with other kids up and down the East Coast. By the way the Hondells
hit was written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love who had some success with a band called the Beach Boys.

             Oh yeah!!!! Mr. Norm's Grand Spaulding Dodge!! I've got some old car books somewhere with adds about some of the buys you could get there! Gary Dyer drove his Drag car, if I remember right. Oh Yeah!!!  Used to watch American Bandstand, Shindig & Hullabalu (or however you spell it).

On the subject of showing your youth, My grandma, (93 last weekend) has the old style rotary phone with a real bell type ringer on it, a while ago I was there with a  guy from work maybe 18 or so, and the phone rang, the guy looks around and says 'what the hell is that?'

 Also, was giving my daughter, (16) and a friend of hers a ride somewhere, get down the road a ways and catch a light, then the girl asked what I was doing, I'm like ? errr, driving? she says no, with that and points at the gear shift....
 
 Heard the tune, but I think the hondells were a bit before my actual listening time, but my favorite car came factory optioned with an AM+8track set up!

 Back when I started driving (legally anyway) an FM radio was something car dealers would paint on the windsheild in huge letters.

         I hear ya Ken. There are so many things that that have been forgotten about, over the years. Talking about the rotary dial phone, I wonder how many have even heard of a "Party Line" (where more than one customer was on the same line and had to listen for a certain ring to identify which call was theirs) much less been on one? That phone was attached with a cord too! That's the kind of phone that I sometimes wish some folks had instead of a cell phone (when they try to drive with that sucker stuck in their ear!

          Real pain, when you think of it. Trying to get the line free for your use, hoping that you've got decent enough people on your line, that won't try to listen in on your conversation. You have to pay attention to the ring, to tell if it was yours or not.

I was lucky we had our own line which the old man told me not to touch unless the house was on fire. My Aunt had a party line and my cousin and I would listen in. Now counting cell phones we have 5 phones. I think we were better off.
