largest tire size for cb 350 twin
« on: September 12, 2007, 06:00:47 AM »
does anyone know what the widest tire you can fit on a stock cb350 rim?
or the widest tire you can use with another rim?  please specify what bike the rim came off of.

I am not looking to extend the front gear out or adding an idler gear somewhere or anything crazy like a couple of people I know have suggested.  kinda scares me.

I will however consider changing swingarms or something like this.

measuring the rear swingarm, you could easily go with 110mm... 120 is a big maybe, i'd be curious if it would.  The wheel measured at 3" wide, so that might be worth upgrading to a 3.5 or 4?

measuring the outside width is meaningless. The stock rim is only 1.85" inside so any wider tyre bulges upwards which leads to instability and fast tyre wear. I've used old motocross wheels  to get 2.15 alloys rims cheap. You can easily fit a 3.50~3.75 inch tyre without excessive sidewall flex

I have a 4.00-18 fitted in my CB350, but only because that's what the PO fitted. It is almost new so I keep it for the sake of cost-efficiency, but I know I will have trouble going through the DMV inspection. The increase in width is not that big -for the looks factor-, so as soon as I replace it I will fit the original size.

thanks pj,

always a wealth of knowledge.  I think I have an old aluminum rim in the shed.

thanks raul,

you hit the nail on the head.  I was mainly checking for the looks factor.

3 of the 350's I've had the PO's put a 4.00 tire on back and I thought it looked absolutely silly. I've swapped them all out with 100/90-18's. I recently put a 100/90/18 on the front to match the back and I think I have found- for me- the perfect size for my 350's.

what tires are you guys running.  I want to run the bridgestone bt45's but the smallest the rear comes in is a 110(4.3").  What are my other options... i want the "sportiest" tire i can get for the bike.

I run chen's because I'm cheap. Someone on the hondatwins.com site was recently talking about how they liked the bridgestone battleax's a lot. I don't ride my 350's very hard, so I'm ok with chens.

Where did you get 4.3?  A ruler?  The tire conversion chart is closer to 4.00 to 4.25 for rear tires.

110mm divided by 25.4mm= 4.330". 25.4mm= 1inch

I know it's not a 350, but I stuffed a 120mm on the rear of my CB450 Project --->

The front is a 100/90/19 and the rear is a 120/80/18 Avon RoadRider tires.

I'm running a Bridgestone 110 on the rear, it fits with some slight margin, I think its the perfect tire, not sure a 120 would fit?
