Tonights project - Kerker exhaust bracket
« on: September 24, 2007, 06:27:53 PM »
Tonight I fabbed up a exhaust bracket for my Kerker exhaust.  Here are the results:

I made the bracket from bar stock aluminum and bent it to my specs.  I polished it up after a wet sanding first with 400 grit, then 800 grit, then 2000 grit and hit it with the buffing wheel I just bought.  I will polish it up some more tomorrow.

Nice work Art. That's a good size hole on the end of that pipe. ;)

Thanks Mike.  I wanted to make you proud.  That is the 1.5 comp baffle.  It should help get all of the ponies out.  Tell Alister that he now has polishing competition.

I don't want to sound like Mr Negative here, but are you sure that'll work?

Looks to me like it could do with some triangulation back to the frame.

I wouldn't worry about that to much. The megaphone clamps to the mid pipe with a large clamp. It's pretty solid without the strap.

Initially I worried about that also, but I am using a locking washer and nut to mount the bracket and it actually provides some really strong support, I tested it by trying to push it down using my body weight and the bracket didn't budge very much.

Fair enough, I was just thinking that it's one hell of a lever load to be putting on that sparkling new cylinder head's exhaust clamps

Nice work Sparty,

That is just the ticket I need to do on my Kerker!  I can't stand the bar that hangs down from the top of the frame.

What was wrong with the stock bracket?  Did you modify your frame(lose stock mounting point?)

The original Kerker bracket hangs from the upper shock mount.  I don't like that look.  Hence my fabbed bracket.

Looks nice Sparty. For forum members' information, your fabbed fabrication is fabulous!  A shiny symbol of SOHC4 stimulating synthesis. ;D

Another good job Art.

For all the guys that haven't fabbed a bracket for their Kerker, it will work just fine and definitely looks better.

Would anybody know what would be the fix for a high vibrating feeling in the right foot peg after installing a Mac muffler?

It's much louder than stock, and the vibration only comes on, as you would say, after 4200rpm.

It still uses the oem bracket location.

You could mount rubber washers between the bracket and bolts like the Kerker uses.  That is what I would do.
