750F carb to air housing boots (update) still avail. at dealer
« on: October 16, 2007, 06:24:50 PM »
Hey All,
I have an air box and just looked at another one. They where a little different. I'm sure the rubbers are the same.
Can I still get these rubbers new?

As the 77-78 CB550K carbs are unique to that bike, so are the carb couplers at both ends.  The earlier models are different length and diameter for the carb interface.  Don't know where they can be obtained new. DSS has the earlier types only, last I checked.  I think Jonsey can confirm this.

This is for the 77 750F. I think I found a used air box today for 30.00.

does anyone have a good method for bringing old rubber boots back to life? I have an old airbox I am putting back on my 550F but the rubber parts have seen better days. I am wondering if there is some type of rubber conditioner, oil, or product that would help. Also, what would be the best way to repair a small crack or tear in rubber?
Thanks for any ideas!

Ron,
I just got back from the local Honda dealer and can still get the ones for my 77 750F $9.00 each. Not sure if there still available on the 550 F. Im picking up the ones that don't come back to life after I soak them in hot water. All sa,e part #.

They will not come back to life, you can make them soft when hot but they will harden again. The chemicals that made the rubber pliable has left for good. If you mix old rubbers with new you can have a crappy running engine since the old will not seal as well.

It will be worth the investment. When I installed the new rubbers, you can now see them pulse at idle like little hearts. An you will not have to worry about then for another 30 years. ;D

This is a bike I could ride for another 30 years. Just think of all the aftermarket stuff for them.  ;D
