seriously. i respect people trying to recycle and get as much use out of these old original parts as possible, but installing carbs with new insulators vs. old ones is like night and day.

Vacuum leaks can cause a lot of damage to the top end too (burnt guide seals, galled ex valve stems and ruined guides). You cannot always see the cracks unless you remove the boot and bend it a bit. Those "micro" cracks pull air as the boots pulse.

Amen to all of the above.  I bought new boots for my cb750, and since this is my first stab at resurrecting a bike from beyond the grave, I didn't want give myself more problems with tuning by having cracked boots.  I'm mentally challenged enough as it is.  :D

I've got a new set of 4 for the '78 750K, fresh from Honda 2 months ago and still in the box. Ended up being too short to use with my CR carbs. Will let them go at cost + free shipping in the US. I'm in California, PM me if interested.

EDIT:  Sold to obnoxshuz. Thanks, pleasure doing business :)

I miss Roy and Dale. Where do the spurs go?

I have a new set for the 75 750F on the way from Service Honda PLUS I'm going to throw in a bag of marshmellows when we do Roy and Dale songs by the campfire. Maybe we can even dig up Trigger. Oops, I forgot, ole Roy had Trigger stuffed.  :D

You know, it's not like Mr Honda is willing to resurrect the manufacture of old discontinued parts. Get 'em while you can and smoke 'em if you got 'em  ;D

You keep asking that same question for each part, and you'll end up with a brand new motorcycle. Now, let me know when you light that campfire 'cause I gotta warm my hardened insulators  :D

So why are sidecovers discontinued? Seems half of us need new sidecovers! Same with gas tanks!

No matter what, the parts will be discontinued sooner or later. What will happen in another 30 years when your new boots are hard? This is not directed solely at tt by the way but to everyone.

We got to figure out ways to make adaptors. It would be easy if it was not for the bends in the boots.

I remember reading something about 15 or 17 years ago that Honda was discontinuing parts for bikes made prior to, and including, 1975. They were going to stockpile parts to last another 25 years or so. I imagine the parts they were talking about were those parts that wear out i.e. seals, insulators, gaskets etc.

Maybe someone else could make them like Sudco or someone.

I noticed a while back they were building new rod kits for H-1.

Anyway the molds for the rubbers are not the most difficult to build, and it sounds like there is $$$$$$ waiting there..

especially when Honda supply dries up and the price can go up..

I agree on the sidecovers. Those on my 78 750k are in good shape but the tabs were broken off so I had to drill them and attach with screws so now checking oil is a pain.

Buzz at Dynoman sells new insulators for the old Mikuni 29's. Better material too. The last NOS set I saw on ebay went for stupid money (like 500.00 or so) to a guy in France. Mark McGrew from M3 was selling them. As for the plastic parts.....the big deal is making the molds (from what I've been told). Molds are very expensive to make is my understanding. I know...and it was mentioned...that Sudco makes many reproduction parts including OEM style exhaust, side covers etc for the Z1. when I think of the original exhausts I...and many others...threw away 30 years ago ::) ::)

I have a buddy that is a moldmaker /toolmaker. He can look at the part and have a pretty good idea.

I will try to dig one out and show him, when I say it is simple I am talking compared to  say a 754 cam cover, or engine case. stuf like that.

Sometime in the 80,s I took a bunch of pipes to the dump, I was thinking, how many more years do I have to wait till these are worth Money!!................... ???

Cheers,

I'd like to think it all boils down to economics, supply and demand, cost vs expense. There's another side of me that thinks Mr Honda and other manufacturers would like to sell new bikes. I'm sure both sides of the equation come into play. HOWEVER, I BELIEVE THAT MR HONDA SHOULD LOOK AFTER HIS LOYAL FOLLOWERS. Those of us that got him here. Those of us that have THREE of his cars sitting in the garage because of the SOHC750. Those of us that still have his motorcycle after 32.5 years. Let the legend live!!

OPEN CALL TO MR HONDA - If you're not going to make our parts then please turn over the molds, whether through sale or generosity, and other production processes to someone that will! It's not nice for you to do this to us! Oh yeah, don't get pissed with someone like Repro Decals when they try to take care of your loyal followers when you won't. Shame on you for #$%*ing about them making our decals and requiring them to not advertise the fact.

ANYONE KNOW HOW TO GET THIS THREAD TO THE CURRENT GESTAPO AT HONDA!! I'm pissed now.
