An Unwanted Present From The City Of Little Rock's Finest!
« on: November 26, 2007, 02:50:59 PM »

The day was going well. My daughter had to go to Little Rock to the Epilepsy Center to be setup on (what they call) a "Tracing EEG" for 3 days and return on Thursday to have it removed. We got up, got ready, got off on time, had just gotten into Little Rock and then it happened! "Blue Lights!" >:( I couldn't believe it! Now, I usually run at or about 5mph over the posted speed. My Daughter and I were talking and didn't realize that I was doing 62mph in a 45 zone!, until the nice officer told me so! :-\ I'd always heard that most cops will let you  off, if you are going 5mph over but not 10. This one says that he allows 15! Of course I just had to be going 17mph over! It'll be a week before I know exactly how much it could be! Lady, where I called to see what the cost would be, says probably around $180! :-X I haven't had a ticket in years, and to get one now! All I can say is, "Merry Christmas!" Kinda puts a kink in MY spending! ::) Ah, but life must go on, right?

                                Later on, Bill :) ;)

Ask if they have a driving school.  If they do you can go and tell all the kiddies in the class about the real drag racing days of the 60s  ;D

I got 2 at once last week.... tickets totally suck a big wammy. Lousy system. Cops are basically meter maids taking money from generally good people.
Of course, I've broken every traffic law every day since I've been riding...

I got a speeding ticket on I-430 in Little Rock a couple of years ago doing 78 in a 55 mph zone. I think it cost me $191.00 so your fine sounds about right.

Go to court and throw yourself at the judge's feet.  Cry some.  Tell him you were going to be late for your daughters cosmic ray thing and then wipe your runny nose on your sleeve.

If you don't have any prior convictions, you could ask for court supervision, where you go for a year without any other infractions, and they wipe it off your record.  It's worth a try.

I say you should put larger tires on, go by the same cop again doing 16mph over, get your ticket but claim inaccurate speedo.  "I was watching my speed very carefully officer."  Maybe even use cruise control.  They usually will let you off if you can prove it was not properly calibrated.  Save the DMV points but have to pay for calibration.

Either that or show up at court and moon the judge then claim insanity.  It could work. ;D

First ticket was the same way. Headed to N.O LA, and you would think I would have watched the spending, but thanks to a garbage system, and proper cops, 151.00$. I miss the days when they would say " 50$ to the state or 40$ to me." kept the ol' record clean.

Looks like a pre x-mas part/fundraising sale to me!

Okay, the Secret's out! :-\ ;D Well, actually, I HAVE always felt the need for speed! MPH type of speed, that is! ;) For many years, I've somehow manged to stay clear of "The Ticket Book!" I would have a burst of speed and manage to slow down just before coming upon a cop w/radar or a cop that had somebody else stopped. Through the years, I had an occasional ticket, but not near as many as I deserved. ;D  Once, back in the 70's, I pulled out of a local drive-in and nailed my 69' road runner (smoking the tires) and shortly afterwards, pulled of onto a side road only to be completely surrounded by 4 cop cars! :o "Said that they didn't think they could catch me any other way! ;D When I was stationed at Hamilton AFB, there was a straight stretch of highway that went East from one highway (can't remember the highway name) and into Vallejo (spelling?) California and I used to make some pretty good runs there and NEVER got caught! Got my doors blown off by a 71' 455 Trans Am on that highway once. ::) Always had respect for those cars! ;)
Now, in the past 15 yrs or so, I've been pulled over, but when they see that I had a Class A CDL, they'd give me a break saying, you don't really need this on your record and give me a "Warning" instead. Thing is, I finally dropped the CDL and reverted to a standard license about 2yrs ago. Might should have kept it, huh? ???
That sucker was costing me about $40-50 each time I renewed. Oh well, too late now. I'd have to go through all the testing again. Live and learn! I have to wait a week to find out how much it's gonna cost me and they do have a "Probation" type of a deal. You are supposed to get a reduced rate and in 6 months, if you don't get another one, it stays off your record. Gonna be a test to see if I can keep it down.

Bill, I would see if I could have a "conference" with the Officer. If you know some Cops that makes it easier. What you want to do is see if he will amend the charge to something like disobeying a sign, or a seat belt. Now here in NY those two charges are not moving violations, which is key. While you will pay the $180 to the Court, you will pay many times that to your insurance company since they will surcharge you for several years on a mover. I did this for my kid on a 20 over rap, he copped to a seat belt. The Judge usually goes along with the Cop on these. Good luck to ya Bill.

Yes you have read it correctly. I spent a couple of years in Law Enforcement and this is business as usual. Speak to any Lawyer that you really know about the perversion of justice. I am just helping a friend try to keep from being jammed.

I want to thank everyone for the comments and advice and all. Thing is, I live about 155miles from there and I haven't been active enough in the Little Rock area, to know any cops and such. It's been so long since I've had an actual ticket, I didn't know it but, there are 3 different ways I could go. #1 I could just admit it and pay a fine. #2 I could deny it and go to court and #3 there is a "Probation Deal" that, if you elect to, you will pay a slightly reduced fine and if you don't get another ticket in 6months, you don't get it on your record. Now get this. I got the ticket on the 26th and the thing has to be taken care of by the 19th of Dec, but you have to wait a week for the paperwork to come from the cop (who issued the citation) the the system so you can find out just how much it will set you back! ::) Uh, Hello! :-\ In this Day and Age and with our Technology, It takes a WEEK! :o Can you say Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday for a year or two? :( All because I got to talking with my Daughter and didn't realize that I had speeded up that much!  But, like I've said, I sure am glad I didn't get noticed when I have been REALLY and INTENTIONALLY speeding, cause I'd have gone under the jail! I've been known, in my younger days, to have really wound them up! ;D ::) So, anyhow, if I can stay out of trouble for 6months, I'll be okay and my record will be clean. ;) (course, I'll be out about $180 too!)

                                  Later on, Bill :) ;)

Bill,
When I got my ticket the cop told me to call a number printed on the back of the ticket and they immediatley told me what the fine was. Maybe the cop just hasn't turned in the paperwork yet. I paid the fine in full at the main Police hq in downtown LR and they also gave me the 6 months probation deal so I didn't have anything showing up on my record.

Isn't it kind of wierd how we all worry so much about getting a ticket now. Seems to me it was a bit easier when you could just outfun the cops and take a sideroad/dirtroad, pull into someones' garage, close the doors and wait it out for a little while.  :o

Not that I would ever do anything like that.
