CB750K (export) low handlebar?
« on: December 24, 2007, 04:39:12 am »
I'm "assuming" that Honda used a low-rise bar on some non-US CB750K export models.

A few example photo's:

http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/669970/

http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/480451/

http://restorefour.free.fr/Galerie/cb750_jean-luc_2.jpg

http://restorefour.free.fr/Galerie/CB750%20Denis%20Vincent%201.jpg

My Honda parts book covers US models only :(

I'm trying to locate a pair for the K0 thru K6 model (K-series) - Anyone have a Honda part number or a source?

Thanks in advance

You are right - the Euro models came with low rise bars and you will notice the master cylinder almost hits the tach. I think David Silver Spares still sells these bars or try CMSL. Or you can simply try Euro bars (which I did) which are a cheap alternative.

I have a set as well, they did not have access holes for the wires until I cut 'em in, but the shape is perfect. If you can get them from Silver with the factory holes, that would be tres cool.

Funny, I remember a walthy kid I went to high school with, Schertzer, can't remember his first name, was given a new gold k0 by his dad. I remember he had to have risers made for the longer american bars as they were just not long enough for him. Strange memory after 35+ years!

Found it oOOHHHH YEAH!!!

Right outa the Green book,

53100-300-610...is handlebar used in England, Germany, France, Netherlands.

53100-300-000 is the standard bars.
Anyone bought standards??, in about 2000, I went to the Honda shop, ordered them and a grab handle, and they were able to get them in.

IMHO you all should have Euro style bars. They make so much difference. I have never understood why USA models had these ridiculous handlebars. Yeah... if your riding is around town, cruising up and down mainstreet... I can see the point, but, man, you wanna ride that thing, don't you!?

Interesting that Honda decided to use the low bars on the CB750 European export model. Probably to further compete with the looks and handling of British bikes back in the day. With the part number now in hand (thanks 754) I'll see if the handlebar is still available from Honda, DSS or CMSL. If not, then it's off to the aftermarket. These bars on ebay look like they would get the job done:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/7-8-handlebars-UK-low-bars-Triumph-Norton-BSA-Honda_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35610QQihZ002QQitemZ120201589770QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

Flanders http://www.flandersco.com/ offers several low-rise Euro style bars and one has the cut-outs for the wiring.

I appreciate the replies.

Note to self: Find a green cover parts book :P

I just installed these superbike bars:
http://www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=2135

I'm glad I got these and not the european bars (http://www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=2760) as it appears that the center width of the Superbikes is .25 wider. When I installed them it looks like the extra .25 extra makes a difference.

Of course I had to drill the bars, run the wires etc. not too bad. But it is a slippery slope as I now need new shorter throttle cables and brake hose.

If correct length throttle and clutch cables become a problem or concern when changing to different bars,

Motion Pro: http://www.motionpro.com/ makes custom length cables.

Well I put 750 on a 500 so it ought to work the other way, trouble is UK 500 bars are scarce and EXPENSIVE (£45 at last check)
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

I picked up these ones for pretty cheap. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/honda-cb550-7-8-superbike-bars-chrome-cafe-110510_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35587QQihZ011QQitemZ320199021331QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

I had to cut some holes in them for the cables, but they're a solid handlebar. Here is a pic of them on my 550.

For something in between the Euro bars and the US "K" model bars I believe the US "F" model bars are lower than the US "K" bars but not as low as the Euro bars.

Mike

That's a good idea so I checked into a few part numbers: (Unfortunately they are no longer available from Honda)

The (US) Honda is listing for the (CB750) 75-76 "F" handlebar is: 53100-341-700 and that part number also cross references to the 73-74-75-76 "K" model.

The (US) "F" handlebar changes again for 77-78 to: 53100-410-000 without any cross reference. They don't appear to be any lower than the earlier 75-76 "F" bars. Not having any measurements for these - it's hard to say for sure.

Honda bars are the ideal replacement as they already have the knurling, wiring cut outs and switch locating pin holes. This attached pic has the stock bars I'm trying to replace with lower ones:

I appreciate the offer ;)

Honda lists two different part numbers for the 550 handlebars:

53100-374-000 used on the 74-75-76 550 "K"
53100-390-000 used on the 75-76 550 "F"

Would you be able to take your 550 handlebar measurements using this link as a guide?

http://www.sideroadcycles.com/ImportedMotorcycles/ImportHandlebars/ImportHandlebars.html

I need to get close to these numbers:

3.5"    rise or height
6.25"  pull back
4.75"  center width
31.5"  width

I have to admit that the info I provided on the "F" bars is what I believed to be true and not something I know as a definite fact.  :-[ Also, I was speaking of the 77/78 bars rather than the 75/76. I can check the dimensions of my bars today so you can have a reference point and properly chastise me if I was wrong.  ;D And FWIW, the 77/78 "F" bars have all wiring running on the outside...no holes.

I managed to get some numbers today....F3 stock bars. They are just approximate because I was hanging over stuff in the shop taking the measurements.

rise...7.5"
pull back...5.25"
center width...7"
width...32"

I don't know how these compare to K bars but they aren't close to the numbers you're looking for so...happy hunting.  :)

Wha ??? ??? The K has a lower rise than the F? I would have thought it would be the other way around. Perhaps the pull back is less which would move the riding position forward? Hold on...I've remembered and just checked out my source for thinking the F bars are lower. I'd read it an old magazine review on the F2...A Brit magazine. Aha! In it they comment on the improved riding position over the F1 and mention "a set of semi-flat and short handlebar bends". Sounds the F2 bars are different than the F1 for the Euro market? One mystery solved another presented.  ;)

I'm surprised nobody has suggested 400F bars. Very low, nice tight bends, and still available from honda. The DOHC cb750 guys swear by them. surprisingly they are cheaper in canada than the US (and not just because of the exchange rate, significantly cheaper).

I went and looked at the stock 76 and 78 F bars in my garage, the only difference I can see is 76 has internal wiring and cutouts and 78 does not. hence the two part numbers. Holding them next to each other they looked about the same.

Good suggestion since it turns out that the 53100-300-610 low Euro handlebar (CB750) used on England, Germany, France, Netherlands and European direct bikes are officially no longer available from Honda, CMSL or DSS. :(

This is what the 400F bars look like: (click to enlarge)

Those look pretty flat. Superbike bar is similar but grip portion angles down a bit. I think you will find that more comfy. The 400 bar will feel a bit like a drag bar, just has a bit of rise.

After a few decades I realized this.. hold your arms fairly straight to navel height, wiggle your hands around at handlebar width and see were they want to be..look at you knuckles.

Now turn your knuckles so they are fairly level..notice how that is not where they naturally want to be?? So a bar that is flat in thegrip area can be uncomfortable..IMO..

they are perfectly comfortable, and not completely flat. A buddy of mine had a set on a 1982 cb750F and you could ride it all day long on that bike.  Really the only difference between the 400f bars and the superbike bars are the S bends in the superbike bars have less of an angle and are not as sharp.
